Today we’d like to introduce you to Colton Capps.
Colton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My interest in film started in middle school, where I began creating and editing YouTube videos. That early hands-on experience sparked a passion that I continued developing in high school through TigerVision, my school’s audio-video production program. There, I created multiple award-winning short films with my peers, worked on news broadcasts for my school, and worked professional film-related events.
During that time, I made the decision to pursue film more seriously, which led me to the University of North Texas, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts. While in college, I continued refining my skills both creatively and technically, and during my junior year, I began working as a freelance videographer. I took on a wide range of projects, from weddings to corporate video work, which helped me build both experience and a strong portfolio.
In early 2025, I took the next step and launched Capps Productions LLC. Since then, I’ve been focused on providing high-quality videography, editing, and audio production services, while continuing to grow the business and take on more advanced and meaningful projects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but the challenges have played a major role in my growth.
Running Capps Productions as a one-man business means I’ve had to take on every role, from building my website and branding from scratch, to marketing, client communication, filming, editing, and final delivery. Learning how to consistently find new clients and grow organically while maintaining a high standard of work has been one of the biggest challenges.
That said, one of the biggest things that’s helped me along the way has been the people around me. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with talented peers in my field. For example, a graphic designer I went to college with, Cuinn Cornwell, helped create my logo and establish the visual identity for my brand. Working with others like that has not only strengthened my business, but also reminded me that even as a solo business owner, I’m not building everything alone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Capps Productions, where I focus on creating high-quality, cinematic video content across a range of projects. Some examples of my work includes ballet videography and physical media production, commercial advertisements, weddings, and branded content. No matter the project, my goal is always the same: to deliver something that feels intentional, polished, and meaningful to the client. I specialize in capturing real moments and turning them into something cinematic and emotionally impactful. Whether it’s a wedding highlight film, a live performance, or a brand story, I focus heavily on detail, both in how it’s captured and how it’s edited. I’m known for being detail-oriented and reliable, especially on projects where there’s no room for error.
I’m especially proud of the collaborative work I’ve been able to do with other creatives. For example, I’ve worked closely with singer-songwriter Lia Graham, capturing both photos and videos of her performing live, and helping her share her artistry through visual storytelling. We collaborated on a music video together, which combined our efforts and creative energy, and that project went on to be featured at the Thin Line Fest Media Arts Festival. Experiences like this are incredibly rewarding, they allow me to dedicate myself fully to a project and create something polished, meaningful, and memorable.
What sets me apart is that combination of technical precision and personal investment. If someone trusts me with their vision, I treat it like it’s my own. I don’t approach projects as just another job, I approach them as something that reflects both my client’s goals and my standard of work. From pre-production, to filming, through final delivery, I ensure every element is carefully crafted so the final product feels complete, professional, and impactful.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I would definitely consider myself a risk-taker, but in a very intentional way.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken is investing my own time and money into building my business from the ground up, without any guarantees. I’ve put significant personal funds into equipment and business development, and dedicated hundreds of hours to building Capps Productions, knowing that success wasn’t guaranteed.
For me, risk isn’t about making reckless decisions, it’s about recognizing what’s worth pursuing and being willing to commit fully to it. I’ve always believed that if I’m creating something meaningful and building something I genuinely care about, and others can appreciate and connect with, then that risk is worth taking.
That mindset has allowed me to keep moving forward, even when things are uncertain, and to stay focused on long-term growth rather than short-term comfort.
