Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Easley.
Hi Antonio, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For over 20 years, I have worked in the security industry and learned a great deal along the way. During that time, one thing became very clear to me: the amount of responsibility placed on security officers does not always match the pay they receive.
Throughout my career working for different companies, I saw armed officers expected to wear body armor, carry firearms, and put their lives on the line to protect others—often for as little as $13, $14, or even $17 an hour. When you truly think about the responsibility that comes with protecting someone’s life, along with the training, equipment, and risk involved, it makes you question whether that compensation truly reflects the value of the job.
At one point, I had to ask myself a serious question: Is a person’s life—and the life of the officer protecting it—only worth $17 an hour?
That question changed my perspective.
I realized that many other officers felt the same way, but often believed there was nothing that could be done about it. That is when I decided to take a different path and start my own security company.
My goal and mission are simple: to build a company that respects and values the professionals who put themselves on the line every day. I want to create opportunities where armed officers—especially Level IV Personal Protection Officers—are paid closer to what they truly deserve for their training, professionalism, and the responsibility they carry.
Security officers are not just bodies standing at a post. They are trained professionals responsible for protecting people, property, and lives. My mission is to make sure they are treated—and compensated—with the respect that responsibility deserves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my own security company wasn’t always a smooth road. A lot of people see the uniforms, the contracts, and the officers on site, but they don’t see the work that happens behind the scenes.
There’s a lot of paperwork involved—figuring out what type of insurance you need, what kind of contracts you want to pursue, and what requirements come with those contracts. Sometimes certain contracts require specific insurance policies, which can cost thousands of dollars a month. On top of that, you may have to register with agencies that manage contract opportunities, and those also come with membership fees.
Once you get through the paperwork and decide what direction you want your company to go, the next step is getting out there and introducing yourself and your business to potential clients. That’s when you run into another challenge: bidding.
In this industry, some companies will underbid contracts just to add another account to their list. They may already have many contracts and are willing to take a lower rate just so they can say they have 40 or 50 locations. But when someone bids very low, it raises an important question—how much are the officers actually being paid?
If a company bids a contract too low, it often brings officer pay right back down into the $13–$17 per hour range, especially for positions that require armed security. And at the end of the day, the company still has to make a profit.
Another big obstacle is startup capital. Depending on the requirements of a client, insurance alone can cost $2,000 to $3,000 per month. That’s why it’s so important to do your research before starting a security company.
My advice to anyone thinking about starting their own security business is simple: learn the industry, understand the requirements, prepare financially, and make sure you have everything in place before you move forward. If you do that, you can make the journey a lot smoother.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First, I want to say that I had a lot of support while starting Reddy Edge Defense LLC.
I want to begin by thanking Nicholas Reddy. When we first met, we shared the same vision and the same goal—to start a family-owned security company and make sure officers are paid what they are truly worth. We both had the same mindset and the same path we wanted to follow. Eventually, another opportunity opened up for him that he had been pursuing, and it turned out to be something even better for him and his family. I truly respect that, and I just want to thank him for starting this journey with me. We still stay in communication today, and I appreciate everything he contributed in the beginning.
I also want to thank my little brother, Aquee Easley, for always having my back. He has been a strong support system for me, always reminding me that things would work out and to just stay patient. There were times when things got tough, and he even helped me financially here and there when I needed it. I truly appreciate that.
I want to thank my significant other, Zyisha Easley, who has been a huge help and a big believer in me. She has supported me every step of the way and always reminds me to stay patient and keep going. Financially and emotionally, she has been there through everything. Sometimes I joke that I might have to make her part owner for how much she’s helped me. But the truth is, she believed in me and still believes in me, and that means a lot.
I also want to thank my big sister and the rest of my family, especially my sister Aleatha Easley. She has always encouraged me to stay patient and trust that things will come together. She’s also been helping with creating our uniform shirts and getting the equipment together for the company. On top of that, she serves as my executive assistant and administrator, helping with paperwork, spreadsheets, invoices, and many other things behind the scenes. I truly appreciate you, sis. Love you.
Also, Jay Allen for your support and help getting contracts coming aboard running to help me. Making sure of this and this. Always having my back and keeping us moving forward in the right direction. Thank you Sir!
Overall, I’ve had a lot of support from many people, and the biggest message everyone kept giving me was patience.
Most importantly, I want to thank God, because He has brought me through a lot of situations that I didn’t think I would make it out of—especially financially. There were times when I didn’t know where the money would come from to keep the company moving forward, but somehow things always worked out.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned through all of this is patience. Like they say, good things come to those who wait. So far, things have been going well, and I pray every day that it continues that way.
