Hidden Gems: Meet Angela Sager of Kensington Nanny Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Sager.

Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My path into this industry began as a parent who employed nannies, which gave me a clear and practical understanding of what families truly need, what works in a home, and where things often fall apart. I experienced firsthand the gaps in structure, communication, and expectations that can make or break a nanny placement. That perspective became the foundation for how I built Kensington Nanny in 2003, with a focus on creating a more thoughtful, well-defined approach to in-home care.

As the agency grew, I became more involved in the broader nanny industry, including serving on the board of the International Nanny Association, where I spoke and trained other agencies, both in the U.S. and internationally, on conducting deeper and more effective interview assessments. Alongside this, I’ve continued to contribute as a subject matter expert to various online nanny and family-focused publications, helping to educate both families and caregivers on best practices within private home childcare. These experiences shaped the way we approach our work today, always through the lens of the family, with a strong focus on preparation, clear expectations, and truly understanding both the nanny and the household before making a match.

Over time, Kensington Nanny has evolved into a more refined and intentional model, including the development of our proprietary CareStyle™ approach, which focuses on aligning a nanny’s natural strengths with a family’s lifestyle and priorities. We also prepare every placement with a Day One Work Schedule, an hour-by-hour plan created in collaboration with the family that blends developmental routines with child-related household responsibilities. This gives both the nanny and the family immediate clarity from the first day, something that is often missing in this industry. Our training and onboarding are designed to ensure that care is not only consistent, but purposeful and developmentally informed.

This commitment to preparation extends into our Kensington Nanny Certification, which is focused on strengthening a nanny’s understanding of child development, age-based milestones, daily structure, communication, and whole-child growth within a private home. In addition, we partner with the US Nanny Institute to support broader continuing education, and align with UK-based certification programs to help expand our standards internationally.

Today, Kensington Nanny operates in South Florida, Dallas-Fort Worth, and newly in Denver, with continued expansion underway. We are preparing to open five additional locations over the next year in response to growing demand. On a personal level, this work has come full circle for me. My children, now 32 and 25, grew up alongside the business and are now part of it, helping to run and support the agency. What started from the perspective of a parent has grown into something much more enduring, a commitment to bringing structure, clarity, and a higher standard of care into the homes of families we serve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a completely smooth road, but I came into this with a strong foundation. Before starting Kensington Nanny, I had a global business development background in the technology space, working with a startup that ultimately became a billion-dollar publicly traded company. That experience gave me the tools to build, scale, and think strategically about growth from the beginning.

Where this business became unique for me was combining that background with my experience as a mother. I understood not only how to build a company, but how to truly understand the mindset, needs, and decision-making process of a family. That ability to see both sides allowed me to build something that felt more aligned and practical for the real dynamics inside a home.

That said, one of the biggest challenges has been navigating an industry that is not always structured or standardized. There can be a disconnect between expectations and reality, both from families and caregivers, and part of the work has been educating both sides while maintaining a high standard. Growth has also required refining our process over time, learning what works, what doesn’t, and being willing to evolve.

Overall, it has been a process of building something very intentional. The combination of business strategy, real-life parenting experience, and ongoing industry involvement has shaped how we operate today and continues to guide how we grow.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kensington Nanny is a full-service nanny agency focused on creating structured, long-term placements for families who value consistency, professionalism, and thoughtful care within the home. Our work goes beyond simply introducing candidates. We specialize in helping families define the role clearly, understand what they need, and build a position that attracts and retains the right nanny.

What sets us apart is that we approach placements through a much more intentional and structured model. We developed our proprietary CareStyle™ framework to align a nanny’s natural strengths with a family’s lifestyle and priorities, and we prepare every placement with a Day One Work Schedule. This is an hour-by-hour plan created in collaboration with the family that incorporates developmental routines alongside child-related responsibilities, so both the nanny and the family begin with clarity from the very first day.

We are also known for placing a strong emphasis on preparation and education. We guide families through the hiring process, including what to ask, what to avoid, and how to position themselves to secure strong candidates. At the same time, we invest in our nannies through our Kensington Nanny Certification, which focuses on child development, communication, daily structure, and professionalism within private homes, particularly in high-net-worth environments using scenario-based learning. We also support ongoing education through partnerships with the US Nanny Institute and UK-based certification programs.

Brand-wise, what I am most proud of is that we have built something that brings structure and clarity to an industry that can often feel unstructured. Families come to us not just for access to candidates, but for guidance, and nannies value the level of preparation and professionalism we bring to each placement. Everything we do is centered around creating stability in the home, which ultimately supports the child.

At its core, Kensington Nanny is about raising the standard. We are intentional about how roles are designed, how placements are made, and how both sides are supported before and after hire. That level of thoughtfulness is what defines our brand and what we want families and nannies to experience when they work with us.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m always actively learning, and that’s an important part of how I operate both personally and professionally. Rather than relying on just one or two specific resources, I stay closely connected to the industry through a combination of blogs, podcasts, speaking engagements, and ongoing conversations with both nannies and families.

I also make it a priority to attend events and engage in communities where families are discussing their needs in real time. That direct exposure is one of the most valuable ways to stay current, because it reflects what is actually happening in homes, not just what is being written about.

For me, staying informed is less about consuming information passively and more about being actively involved in the conversation. That ongoing connection is what helps me continue to refine our approach and ensure that what we offer remains relevant, thoughtful, and aligned with what families truly need.
