Inspiring Conversations with KATANA DIXON of Sable Cigars

Today we’d like to introduce you to KATANA DIXON.

Hi KATANA, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t set out to build a cigar brand. I set out to build a standard.

I’m a U.S. Air Force veteran, a consultant by trade, and a woman who has always understood the value of structure, discipline, and precision. For years, my work lived in systems, strategy, and compliance—but outside of that world, I found myself drawn to something slower, more intentional. Cigars became that space. Not just as a product, but as a ritual.

What started as appreciation turned into curiosity. Curiosity turned into research. And eventually, that research turned into action.

Sable Cigars was born from the belief that luxury should feel personal, not performative. I wasn’t interested in creating something loud or trendy. I wanted to build something that felt grounded—something that honored the full experience, from the cut to the final ash. That meant going straight to the source, working with master blenders in the Dominican Republic, and taking the time to develop cigars that weren’t rushed to market, but refined with intention.

Being a one-woman operation in the beginning taught me everything—how to negotiate, how to trust my instincts, and how to stand firm in rooms where I wasn’t expected. There were moments that required tough decisions, discipline, and a refusal to accept anything less than what was agreed upon. But that’s the cost of building something real.

Today, Sable is more than cigars. It’s a growing house—expanding into coffee, curated experiences, and a lifestyle rooted in ritual and quiet luxury. Every decision, every product, every detail is guided by the same principle:

No shortcuts. No noise. Just intention.

This isn’t just a business. It’s a statement.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—and I wouldn’t trust it if it had been.

One of the earliest challenges was navigating manufacturing and international business as a new brand. There’s a learning curve that no one really prepares you for—pricing discrepancies, communication gaps, unexpected costs, and moments where you have to stand firm on agreements, even when it’s uncomfortable. I’ve had to advocate for my business in rooms where I was underestimated, and in situations where details mattered more than relationships.

Building Sable as a one-woman operation also meant carrying every role at once—vision, operations, negotiations, branding, and strategy. There’s no hiding in that. Every decision rests on you, and every mistake teaches you quickly.

Another challenge has been maintaining the integrity of the brand in a space that often leans heavily on hype. It’s easy to rush, to cut corners, or to follow trends—but I made a conscious decision not to. That meant taking more time, asking more questions, and sometimes delaying things to get it right.

And then there’s the personal side—balancing real life with building something from the ground up. There were moments where I was navigating serious life situations while still showing up for my clients and my business. That kind of pressure forces clarity. You learn what matters, what doesn’t, and how to keep moving regardless.

But every challenge reinforced the same principle Sable was built on: no shortcuts. If anything, the obstacles didn’t slow me down—they refined the vision.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sable Cigars?
Sable Cigars is a luxury boutique cigar brand rooted in ritual, intention, and quiet power. What sets Sable apart is that it was never built to compete for attention—it was built to elevate the experience.

We specialize in premium, Dominican-crafted cigars developed in partnership with master blenders, with a focus on balance, construction, and consistency. Our debut collection, The Velvet Rituals™, features three distinct blends—each designed to meet a different mood while maintaining the same standard of refinement. From the smooth elegance of a Connecticut to the depth of a San Andrés Maduro, every cigar is created to be experienced, not rushed.

But Sable is not just about cigars—it’s about the ritual surrounding them.

We are building a full lifestyle brand that extends into coffee, curated pairings, and intentional moments of pause. Everything we create is designed to slow you down and bring you into the present—whether that’s lighting a cigar at the end of the day or starting your morning with a bold, carefully selected coffee.

What truly sets Sable apart is discipline. There are no shortcuts in how we build, source, or present our products. From the construction of the cigars to the packaging and customer experience, every detail is deliberate. We don’t follow trends, and we don’t rush releases. If it carries the Sable name, it meets a standard.

What I’m most proud of is that Sable feels like something larger than a product—it feels like a house. A place people can return to. A brand that becomes part of their routine, not just a one-time purchase.

For readers discovering Sable for the first time, I want them to understand this:

This isn’t about hype.
It’s about how you choose to experience your time.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is integrity—how you move, what you stand on, and what you’re willing to walk away from.

In business and in life, it’s easy to compromise for speed, approval, or convenience. I’ve learned that real fulfillment doesn’t come from what looks good on the outside—it comes from knowing you built something the right way. That you honored your word, protected your standards, and didn’t cut corners when no one was watching.

Time also matters to me in a very real way. Not just productivity—but presence. The ability to slow down, to be intentional, to actually experience the moment you’re in. That philosophy is what shaped Sable. It’s not just about cigars—it’s about creating space to pause, reflect, and enjoy life without rushing through it.

And finally, legacy matters. Not in a loud or performative sense, but in what remains. What people remember. What you leave behind through your work, your discipline, and your consistency.

Everything I build is rooted in those principles.

Because at the end of the day, what you create will always reflect what you value.
