Today we’d like to introduce you to Remy Dupree.
Hi Remy , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Jack of all trades, born number 3 of 5 children to mother (Audrey Jenkins) and number 2 of 2 to father (Charles Duty). Raised in Fort Worth Texas by my late grandmother Margie Jenkins. Fell in love with the comb at the young age of maybe 6-7(sneaking to play with my big sisters dolls). Theatre kid(jubilee theatre and booker t sparks school of performing arts) where I developed a love for music and dance. Graduated high school 2013 Dunbar high school went on to attend cosmetology school at Ogle school of hair, skin and nails graduated and obtained cosmetology license 2014. At the age of 31 I have now been the proud owner of my business “The RemyTouch Salon” (where we cater to every crown custom to the clients needs, whether natural, extension or luxury extensions or a new cut to start your healthy hair journey from scratch) for 12 going on 13 years. And have been behind the chair 15 years as a whole serving the cities of Fort Worth, Dallas, Los Angeles and now officially moving my businesses and all of my talents to Huntsville, Alabama. As mentioned I am a jack of all trades so I will be tapping into hair(new clientele/set work), music(artistry and songwriting), dance, vlogging(content creating), acting(praying for a role or behind the scenes work at Tyler Perry studios/Oprah Winfrey network or other production companies ) and overall a fresh start.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No this road has not been smooth but I don’t have any regrets on making the decision to be a full time cosmetologist. I’ve been on the up and up(a solid clientele/traveled the world) of the hair industry and I have been on the down(slow/stuck seasons) as well. Even tapping into my musical side with being an artist hasn’t been easy with Fort Worth not having a huge music scene, solidifying that social media presence and drawing in that audience has not been easy at all. But I won’t give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself an artist all across the board.
Hairstylist(specializing in natural hair care, extensions , luxury extensions and cut and color)
dancer/choreographer(majorette and hiphop)
actor (comedy skits, extra work on sets, more to come)
content creator ( TikTok, Instagram and Facebook)
Recording artist/songwriter( rapper, hiphop, pop, rap and R&B) under the artist name (Xremx on all major platforms)
What I’m most proud of is that I cannot be put in a box and what sets me apart is that nobody does it like it me.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Remain a student no matter what level you feel you have reached. Always leave room for Growth and don’t let your mistakes dictate your future. What I wish I knew starting out, was to not compare my journey to my peers or others that are in the same industry as me. The comparison game can hold you back and make you try to speed up your process because of the feeling of not being where you feel like you’re supposed to be. Focus on your Journey and pray through your full process.
