Life & Work with Jackie Legos of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Legos.

Jackie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jackie legos and I currently play with a band called (Happy Phantom) from Dallas, Texas. I am a full-time musician and multi instrumentalist who has been playing music for most of my life. While on stage, my prefered instrument is the electric guitar, and through the years I have been the front man of several music projects including bands like (Gift) which gained some minor success in 2004 and was regularly played on Clear Channels radio Station 102.1 The Edge, “The Adventurte Club” hosted by Josh Venable. Other bands include (Before Dawn), (Polar Cold), (The Capture), (At Night), and (Sevit) who has recently asked me to regroup with them. In 2020 I signed on with (InClub Records) Peru to release The Sevit album called (On The Edge Of A Darker Place) released in October 2021, which did gain so momentum world wide, but in 2022, for personal reasons, I parted ways with (Sevit) and formed the band (Happy Phantom) that same year. I then resigned with (InClub Records) for my 2nd album release called (Requiem). In 2023, I signed with American based indie lable (Dark Entry Records) to rerelease my original music from the album (On The Edge Of A Darker Place) that I had previously released with (Sevit). The album was remixed and remastered and released with the new album title (Vicious Lies) excluding 2 songs that were written by (Sevit) co founder Cam B. Since then, (Happy Phantom) has released 5 full length albums and 13 song singles that can be found on every single music platform world wide. (Happy Phantom) is currently signed to (Polypiel Records) Spain and continues to make traction in several countries around the world. A new album by (Happy Phantom) is schduled to release early this Fall and we are also in the works to release a new album with the band (Sevit) in early 2027. If you are curious about what (Happy Phantom) sound like, you can find us at www.happyphantommusic.bandcamp.com (Happy Phantom) is Modern Post Punk, Alternative Rock Band with founding memebers Jackie Legos and Dave Ainsworth. Additional members current and past include Gillian Vaile, Zack Bigalow, Colby Sias, Phil Sozansky, Brendan Laden and Austin Hayes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music life can be a tough road in many ways but it can also be rewarding. Some of the obstacles most bands face is a lack of support from your local community. Unfortunately, there are many individuals out there that would rather see you fail than succeed! There’s a lot of envy, jealousy, music politics and ego that involve too much drama.
I myself certainly try to stay clear of such things but it seems to be the norm in cities like Dallas. The challenges are getting your music out there without compromising your character just to fit in! The Dallas music scene has a lot of “clicks” and if you’re not a part of it, opportunities lessen for you and your band. It’s almost like being in highschool all over again and age doesn’t matter. To me, the rewards come from sharing our music with others and connecting with people who may be in the same mindset or mood, spiritally, mentally, and sometimes metaphysically. Music can deeply impact people in so many ways. I try to write music that brings people comfort; To them and to myself. It is poetry after all!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think what sets me apart from others is, I was never interested in being a musician to be “famous”. I just wanted to share good music with good people. I want to share the kind of music I grew up listening to and loving. It was dark and poetic, romantic and comforting to me. I lived in my own world where things like post punk music was something rare and special and I would like to see that type of music continue on to a new generation that didn’t get to experience the 90’s like I did.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have many wonderful childhood memories. Almost too many to count! Nothing really sticks out immediately or specifically come to mind.
