Hi Sonia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Mexico, where I built my academic and professional foundation. I earned a degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Special Education, and I worked as a university teacher, which gave me a deep understanding of people, communication, and human behavior.
Five years ago, I made the decision to move to the United States to create a better future and start my own business. Like many immigrants, I had to reinvent myself completely. That’s when I discovered the permanent makeup industry. What started as a new skill quickly became a passion, and over time I refined my technique, focusing on precision, facial harmony, and personalized results.
Two years after starting my business, I joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic, where I developed discipline, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure. I am also EMT certified, which strengthened my understanding of safety, hygiene, and client care—elements that are essential in my work today.
Currently, I am the owner of Royal Charm Studio in Corpus Christi, Texas. I continue to grow my business while expanding my knowledge and professional experience, including my work as a Notary Public. My journey has not been linear, but every step has shaped the way I approach my work—with precision, responsibility, and a strong commitment to excellence.
Today, I am focused on helping my clients feel confident through high-quality, customized permanent makeup, while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was starting over in a new country. I had an established career in Mexico, and moving to the United States meant leaving everything behind and rebuilding from zero—new industry, new system, and a language barrier that I am still improving every day.
Another challenge was gaining trust in a highly competitive industry. Permanent makeup requires precision, responsibility, and strong client confidence. Building that trust took time, consistency, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results every single time.
Joining the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic also came with its own challenges. It required discipline, mental strength, and the ability to adapt quickly under pressure. Balancing military responsibilities with growing a business was not easy, but it taught me resilience and structure, which I now apply to everything I do.
Over time, I’ve learned to see challenges as opportunities for growth. Each obstacle helped me become more focused, more disciplined, and more committed to excellence. Today, those same challenges are the reason I am able to provide a higher level of service and professionalism to my clients.
