Today we’d like to introduce you to Aixa Barbera.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a first-generation Latina business owner and the founder of XOXO Events, starting this business has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My family migrated from Argentina to give me a better life, and that is something I carry with me in everything I do. They are my number one motivation and my biggest support system, and my goal has always been to build something that makes them proud and improves their lives.
We launched XOXO Events two years ago, combining my background in sales with my passion for creating luxury, memorable experiences. Since then, we have grown at a fast pace, specializing in luxury event planning and design, including birthdays, weddings, and corporate events. In a short amount of time, we’ve been fortunate to work with incredible venues, partners, brands, and sponsors such as Crown Block Dallas, The Statler Dallas, Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley, Tower Club Dallas, The Arts District Mansion, Kanvas Dallas, as well as Patrón, Makers Mark, Herradura Tequila, Lobos Tequila, Tres Generaciones Tequila, among many others. We’ve also had the opportunity to contribute creatively to major events, including decorating for well-known artists at different venues, such as Rauw Alejandro. We are truly grateful for these opportunities, as well as the mentors who have helped guide us along the way.
My journey wasn’t traditional. I attended an Uplift school focused heavily on academics and was accepted into 13 universities across the country. I went on to study accounting at UNT, but I always knew the vision I had for my life was bigger than a traditional desk job. I wanted to build something of my own.
As the oldest daughter and oldest granddaughter, I always felt a deep sense of responsibility and pressure to set the example. That role shaped me early on, it taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of leading by example, even when things felt uncertain. At times, that pressure was heavy, but it ultimately became one of my biggest sources of motivation. It pushed me to think bigger, work harder, and create a path that not only honored my family’s sacrifices, but also showed what was possible.
That mindset stayed with me as I stepped away from a traditional path and chose to build something of my own.
The belief that “if you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room,” pushed me to take a risk and step into entrepreneurship. I trusted my experience, my work ethic, and my vision, and built something that reflects all of that.
I’m proud of what we’ve created so far, but I truly believe this is just the beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been many moments of uncertainty, responsibility, and learning as I went. Like I said, as the oldest daughter, I’ve always been the one my family counted on. Even when I didn’t have all the answers, I still had to show up, figure things out, and lead the way.
One of my core memories is learning English while also becoming the bridge between my parents and the world around us. I would translate legal documents, help them read important papers, and make sure they understood things that could impact our lives. At the time, I didn’t realize how much that would shape me, but it taught me independence and resilience.
There were definitely moments where I felt overwhelmed or unsure, but those experiences forced me to grow up quickly and develop a strong sense of responsibility. Looking back, those challenges didn’t just shape my character, they prepared me for entrepreneurship in ways I didn’t even realize at the time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about XOXO Events Dfw ?
XOXO Events is a luxury event planning and design company specializing in elevated, unforgettable experiences for birthdays, weddings, and corporate events. We focus on full-service production, where every detail is intentionally curated to create a seamless and visually striking experience from start to finish.
What sets us apart is our approach to combining structure with creativity. We don’t just design events, we build experiences that feel immersive, intentional, and tailored to each client’s vision.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you don’t wait to feel ready, you move and BECOME ready. In the beginning, I questioned whether I had enough experience or whether I should wait until I felt more prepared, but I quickly realized that hesitation will always cost you opportunities.
