Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyler Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Jones.

Hi Tyler, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I first started DJing as a simple hobby. I loved the fact that I could mix music and create a vibe for a room, whether it was just me being a bedroom DJ in my room or playing at small house parties. The first house party I ever did was for my best friends, Ki and Mylles. They were some of the first people to really push me to work on my craft and step outside of my comfort zone by playing in front of different people in new rooms.

I later started playing for one of my mentors, Ari, at Top Notch Tuesdays. That experience helped me slowly build my brand, grow my confidence, and network with the right people. Those early opportunities and the people who believed in me played a big part in helping me get to where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like any journey, there have been challenges and setbacks along the way. One of the biggest struggles was learning to believe in myself and stay confident after being let go from my first residency. At the time, I was scared I wouldn’t find any other gigs because I was still the new kid on the block, still finding myself, meeting new people in the industry, and learning how everything worked.

I also had to understand the importance of staying active, supporting the veterans who paved the way, and showing love to the newer DJs coming in as well. That first year was really tough when it came to finding opportunities, but I always kept an open mind, stayed ready, and remained alert for any chances that came my way. Through it all, I never forgot to go out, support others, and build relationships with the people I’ve grown to know and appreciate today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a local DJ from Dallas, Texas. I currently serve as the head DJ of bookings for a local bar called Elle on Ross, and I also host Open Decks for newer DJs at a venue called Three Links in Deep Ellum. Through both roles, I’ve been able to stay involved in the culture while also helping create opportunities for other upcoming talent.

I’m known for having very diverse sets as an open-format DJ. What sets me apart, in my opinion, is my ability to make any crowd feel included, no matter how diverse the room may be. Whether it’s a small venue or a packed space, I approach every set with the same energy and passion, like it’s my last time behind the decks.

What I’m most proud of is seeing people truly enjoy themselves and have a great time through the gift of music. Knowing that I played a part in creating a fun memory for people, even if they don’t always remember who was DJing it means everything to me.
