Life & Work with Criss Hahn of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Criss Hahn.

Hi Criss , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, My Name is Criss Hahn. I recently just celebrated my 20th year in business this March 27, 2026. I stared my company in my senior year of high school officially, but I have been in a hustle and grind mindset since I was 7 years old! I guess you could say when you get your hands on the family lawnmower and start mowing the neighbor’s lawn, then finding your way 2 blocks down mowing the next, then the next creating a mini business at a young start. The drive to be self-made or earn success has always driven me to be better and continue the growth with what comes. I like most 16-year-olds got my license and expanded to farther outreach of referral jobs from the clientele. I re invested profits back for new equipment, gear, and to offer more. By the time I graduated I had already built a network of referral base work, decent equipment, and had no idea where my future was going but I haven’t stopped. I eventually grew from lawncare to full on landscape architecture project design, and with a huge Horticulture background and acing the program in high school it came naturally to me. After the 7-year mark I had employees, more trucks, trailer, and equipment. This was the moment were I really started to imagine more! I expanded the growth into a full General Contracting LLC company. I had developed a company, and a form of passion that wanted to do more. With my online presence on social media, and website the photos of before and after of my work with testimonials and reviews reflecting the daily grind to provide excellence is really showing after 20 years. I am always pushing for the what’s next thought to life and am happy with my decision to take a step back to reflect on life and where all the hard work has led me! That is where Ellis County comes into the scene. I moved here with my now wife in 2022. We were able to host all of our family and friends to our wedding in Mansfield Texas which was our planning to have a Texas wedding. My family has always supported my drive in per suite of happiness through my work. I have been rebuilding the business brand here ever since then. Showing humble, thoughtful, driven ideas, to provide a real Customer to contractor experience. I relocated here simply put for a change, slower pace, and to take in life from a different perspective and scenery. I love Being here in Texas and everything it has to offer. Every day is a new experience and love getting to meet new people and build relationships.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I Think after 20 years it’s hard to say smooth is an option ha-ha. No, ups and downs like many businesses endured. Family, relationships choosing between them or a business that takes so much of your time. Financial setbacks, like it took me 11 years before I could buy my own home! self-employed people have it rough to actually show success on paper and have to work so much harder to prove that to lenders. I have always saved to buy what i needed next for the business from trucks, equipment etc… so i wasn’t taking loans and paying interest.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Currently an Owner Operated company now. I do everything myself and have actively been networking and creating new business connections for sub-contracting work as needed to keep up with demands or realistic timeframes on projects. That being said, I don’t build new homes, but I offer my unique touch on design options with remodels and interior or exterior transformations. I love taking a vision i create or creating a vision with a new customer and using their home or property and my canvas and being an artist with making it happen. I love making the work i do feel like no one else will have it one of a kind feeling so they value the experience and financial investment in the service I provide. For instance, I love creating accent wall in a unique space and style to a room for the needs of space. Or, taking a room or space and updating a new remodel and make people happy with their homes and how they get to use their spaces.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Well, everyone who knows me since the beginning has always treated me the same way and supported me. I will say the one person who ultimately gave me the push to start for my own pursuit of happiness in being my own boss, and chasing my dream was my last boss I ever has so long ago. I was working under him as an employee while trying to figure out how to make a living and having guaranteed income. He just looked at me one day and said Criss, what are you doing here? i said working lol. He said yes but why, leave, go chase my business goals and make it happen, working here is holding me back. I’ll never forget that conversation and it’s why I’m here or at least where I’m at sooner in life. His name is Josh Beard, great boss, mentor, even loaded me his truck for a few months to get me to and from work and keep my business going while i was getting repairs done. Also, another was Rich Osborn. He was a grounds keeper employee for my high school. He helped create a program with me and other students to make mowing the ground of school and maintenance an occupational and elective credit for school allowing accelerated days to free up from school senior year to go take care of my clients. He even attended my graduation and was very proud to be a part.
