Exploring Life & Business with Jessa Romieleen P Orden Wickman of Jessa’s Bakehouse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessa Romieleen P Orden Wickman.

Hi Jessa Romieleen P Orden, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jessa’s Bakehouse started from my passion for baking and creating beautiful desserts for people’s special moments. Growing up, I watched a lot of baking shows and admired cakes, which sparked my passion for cake decorating and pastry work from an early age.

I’ve been working in the hotel and food service industry for about eight years as a pastry cook-1, where I’ve continued developing my skills in baking, pastry, and customer service. Over time, I realized I wanted to build something of my own.. a brand that reflects my creativity, passion, and attention to detail.

That’s how Jessa’s Bakehouse was born. I specialize in elegant buttercream cakes with modern designs that are both visually beautiful and delicious. What started as a passion project has grown into a business where I get to be part of weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and other meaningful celebrations for my clients.

Alongside running my business, I currently serve in the United States Navy Reserves, which has taught me discipline, time management, and dedication.. qualities I also bring into my work and business. Balancing military service, motherhood, and entrepreneurship has been challenging at times, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how far Jessa’s Bakehouse has come and to continue growing within the community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve had to learn everything step by step.. from pricing and sourcing ingredients to managing time, orders, and customer expectations. In the beginning, it was challenging to find balance and structure while trying to grow something from the ground up.

One of my biggest challenges has been time management. Between running Jessa’s Bakehouse, serving in the United States Navy Reserves, and being a mom, there are seasons where everything feels very full. I’ve had to learn how to stay organized, set boundaries, and be realistic about what I can take on without compromising quality or my family time.

There have also been moments of self-doubt, especially when things get overwhelming or when I’m trying to improve my skills and standards. But those challenges have pushed me to grow, become more disciplined, and really build a business that reflects both my passion and professionalism.

We’ve been impressed with Jessa’s Bakehouse, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jessa’s Bakehouse is a custom cake business specializing in modern, elegant buttercream cakes designed for weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and other special celebrations. Every cake is made to order with a focus on both taste and design.. balancing beautiful aesthetics with flavors that clients genuinely enjoy..

I specialize in buttercream-based cakes with minimal fondant work, allowing the designs to feel more natural, soft, and artistic while still maintaining a clean, polished finish. My work is known for its attention to detail, clean designs, and thoughtfully crafted flavor combinations using fresh, high-quality ingredients.

What sets Jessa’s Bakehouse apart is the personal approach behind every order. I don’t just bake cakes.. I work closely with clients to bring their vision to life and make their moments feel special and intentional. My background as a pastry cook in the hospitality industry, along with my discipline from serving in the United States Navy Reserves, has shaped how I approach consistency, organization, and professionalism in my business.

I also offer a variety of signature cake flavors and fillings, allowing each cake to be customized not just in design but in taste as well. From classic vanilla and chocolate to more unique flavors like ube and mocha hazelnut, I aim to create something memorable for every celebration.

What I’m most proud of is how the brand has grown through word of mouth and trust. Jessa’s Bakehouse represents more than just cakes to me.. it represents milestones, celebrations, and being part of people’s most meaningful moments. That connection with my clients is what I value the most and what continues to inspire me to grow the brand.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think when it comes to finding a mentor or building a strong network, I’ve learned that it often starts with simply putting yourself in the right spaces and being open to learning from others. In the baking and small business world, I’ve found a lot of value in connecting with other bakers, vendors, and creatives.. whether that’s through social media, local events, or simply engaging with people whose work I admire.

For me personally, consistency and authenticity have worked best. I’ve reached out to other professionals, asked questions, and stayed active in communities where people are willing to share knowledge and experiences. Most of the opportunities and connections I’ve built have come from genuine conversations and supporting others first, rather than just asking for guidance.

I’ve also learned that a mentor doesn’t always have to be one official person.. sometimes it’s a combination of different people you learn from along the way. I’ve taken lessons from chefs I’ve worked with, other small business owners, and even clients who give feedback that helps me grow.

What’s worked well for me is staying humble, being open to learning, and not being afraid to ask questions. Growth happens faster when you’re willing to listen, observe, and continuously improve. For me, networking is really about building relationships, not just connections.
