Rising Stars: Meet Michelle Huynh of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Huynh.

Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I would say that my story on how I got here was a lot of hard work and being okay with not being comfortable all the time. I moved to Dallas in 2017 from Northern VA/DC area. At the time, I did not like the new environment; all I wanted to do was go back and be comfortable in a bubble I knew I could be more than.

I restarted school here by being a dance major at Collin College. I’ve always just loved performing (and dance being one of the performing arts I started with), so I just went for that! Collin College gave me the opportunity to even try, so I’m so grateful that I did it. Then, I decided to get a degree in psychology at TWU for job prospects. I wanted to get a stable career while pursuing my creative endeavors like acting, dancing, singing (I’m a metal singer!), content creating, and cooking good food for the people I love).

Along the journey, I placed a big significance on taking care of my mental health; whether the process was perfect or not. I was in the journey to move on any negativity I gave out to the world, addressing my own thoughts and navigating friendships and relationships that have outgrown its expiration date. It did take a while, but confidence and being self-assured has almost saved me from leading a miserable life. I have wonderful people around me and I would not change A DAMN THING about how I went about it. Everyones journey will be soooooo different from one another. Healing and learning more about yourself is not going to be perfect; it will get messy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NOOO LOL Smooth? Who’s she???? We don’t know her lol.

A lot of the struggles were mostly associated with being raised in an immigrant household. I am the youngest of four daughters! My sisters and I had a pretty sizable age gap, so I grew up with more eyes on me than anything. As much as the attention was great to some extent, being a child and not knowing who and what to “follow” felt like a big game of chess. It wasn’t even JUST my family; it would be extended family, friends, teachers, peers, instructors, etc.

I will say one thing I struggled with ALL of my life was my confidence. Growing up, I did not know what the hell that was. I was seeing from other people that “confidence” meant that they knew they were the SHIT. Now that I’ve gotten some life experiences and been in coaching/therapy for a while, its just trusting yourself. It’s simple, yet a complex concept.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honestly – I’m really a mixed bag.

I work as a consultant for a tech company, I sing, dance, weight lift (I care a lot about physical health), cook, good at makeup. I’ve always wanted to be good at multiple things or “be a jack of all trades” really. That’s what brings me confidence. I don’t need to be A MASTER, but I want to see myself do the action and think “damn! I actually killed that!”

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
OOF – SO MANY PEOPLE.

My family, best friends, fiance, former life coach, therapist, acting coach, teachers, instructors – hell; anybody that was even in my life for a second? They deserve it too because they had something that sparked me to do what I’m doing now.
You breathe near me and you provoked me to do something with myself.

They helped me start it, but I’m the one who finishes it. I’m the one who’s doing IT.
