Meet Theresa Gruben of Gentle Breeze Travel – Cruise Planners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Gruben.

Hi Theresa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a traveler by passion. I started my travel agency in 1998. When I was considering opening my own business, of course, I decided to lean into my passion.
My parents met in Paris, France. My mom is European, and my dad is an American who was stationed there in the Navy. They married and lived there for several years. My 4 brothers and I were introduced to traveling at a young age and taught us that the world is full of great people. My husband and I raised our children with the love of discovering new places, especially in Europe, or cruising to a new destination. Many times, we go to those places that just feel like home, such as Hawaii with our two daughters.
My business has grown quite a lot through the years, and much due to my dedication to my clients. Also, throughout my career, the professional relationships I have made in my business have offered support and collaboration. Dedication to the industry to learn and grow is very much key to my success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I remember just a few years into my business, 9-11 happened. Many of my clients were stranded with flights shut down. Everything stood still. I remember the uncertainty of the moment. Then, of course, COVID-19 was a year and a half of travel postponements, cancellations, and reassuring my clients. When much of the world was shut down, so was much of my business, so it seemed. I had never researched as many National Parks or Florida destinations to drive to for clients as I did in 2020 and 2021. The world bounced back in a big way. The travel industry strives through tough times. People have a desire to travel, and I am happy to make those dreams come true.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Gentle Breeze Travel – Cruise Planners?
I purchased my Cruise Planners franchise in 1998 when the company was just a few years old. And there were only a few of us in the metroplex at the time. Each of us is independently owned and operated with access to exclusive offers, special amenities & low travel fares. I am proud to be part of such a solid and recognized brand in the industry.

My expertise is in customizing trips to Europe and Hawaii. I travel frequently to both destinations. Mexico and the Caribbean all-Inclusive land trips. I specialize also in ocean and river cruising. I love to create tailor-made experiences for families and couples and groups. Arranging travel for many types of groups such as family reunions, destination weddings, church groups, businesses, hobby clubs and more. I have great tools to make it professional and easy for my group leaders to keep it fun and well organized in the process.. We offer great incentives for groups.

Our agency is licensed, bonded, and insured travel agency, as well as a member of the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) and American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is when my client returns from vacation happy. If they loved their trip, then months of planning were worthwhile. I love when a client texts me during their travels—today, one arrived in Sorrento, Italy, and said, “I LOVE this hotel! Thank you!” That’s rewarding. Creating an experience they love is a wonderful feeling. Client referrals are the truest sign of success. My business has grown quite a lot through the years, and much due to my dedication to my clients. Also, throughout my career, the professional relationships I have made in my business have offered support and collaboration. Dedication to the industry to learn and grow is very much key to my success.
