Conversations with KIM Croisant

Today we’d like to introduce you to KIM Croisant.

Hi KIM, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I became a mom (again) when my 5-week-old grandson came to stay with us. Ten months later, he was ours permanently. I wanted a way to communicate with the family on his progress and daily living, so I created a blog called “Mommie Again.” That was 16 years ago. I’ve been blogging ever since, and that has led me to where I am today.

I only write about travel, and right now, only Texas travel. My “son” and I go on many traveling escapades, and I work with several CVBs on paid articles. I own a website called Texas Travel Talk and have written my very first book. It’s called “Small Town Texas”, and is due out sometime this fall.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As an older mom in the “blogging” industry, I felt many companies didn’t want to work with me. There was always an age bracket that I didn’t fall into. But I never gave up.

I lost my son in August of 2010, and that’s when Brody became ours permanently. The struggle was hard, but we managed to get through it, and now the kid is thriving.

As time went on, I changed my blog name to “Forever Green Mom”, then to “My Traveling Roads,” but now I just have Texas Travel Talk and am doing well at it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I mostly write about travel, but when I’m not, I make crafts as a hobby. I do have a few side jobs outside of the home, which I do on a temporary basis.

My mom and I lived together for four years, and I helped take care of her. Sadly, she passed away only 12 days ago. She was my rock and the person who taught me that making crafts was a happy hobby. She also handed down her green thumb to me. So today, I stay busy taking care of my dog, her dog, our 4 chickens, and our Lionhead rabbit (and the house).

I sell plants, backyard eggs, my crafts and more whenever I can …and mostly in my front yard!

How do you think about luck?
From day one, when I had my son at the age of 19, I knew I was a survivor – that I could survive anything. I also thought he could, but drugs took him when he was only 30 years old.

I think knowing I could and can survive anything has helped me get through the hard times. I’m 65 and have lost family and friends.

My writing and trips help me get through life. I love visiting Texas towns I’ve never been to and learning about their history.

My book is about 50 small towns in Texas, covering their founding histories, legends, lore, attractions, and events. Can’t wait until it comes out this fall.
