Community Highlights: Meet Barbara Silva of New Hope Sushi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Silva.

Hi Barbara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m the owner of New Hope Sushi, a small family business based in McKinney, Texas, focused on bringing Brazilian-style sushi to our local community.

My journey started from a passion for food and the desire to create something of my own. Coming from Brazil, I always felt there was a gap when it came to the kind of sushi I grew up loving — more creative, flavorful, and with a unique twist that blends traditional Japanese techniques with Brazilian influence.

What began as something small, preparing sushi at home for friends and family, quickly grew through word of mouth. People connected not only with the food, but with the experience — something different, comforting, and made with care.

Over time, New Hope Sushi evolved into a structured business, offering pick-up, delivery, and private in-home sushi experiences. One of our highlights is our all-you-can-eat sushi service at home, where we bring a full sushi experience directly to our clients, creating memorable moments with friends and family.

Today, we continue to grow while staying true to our roots — a family-run business focused on quality, creativity, and personalized service. Every order reflects our commitment to delivering not just food, but an experience.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, especially starting from home, there have been several challenges along the way.

One of the biggest challenges was building trust and visibility in a new market. Introducing Brazilian-style sushi to people who were not familiar with it required time, consistency, and a lot of effort in educating customers about what makes our food unique.

Another challenge has been managing all aspects of the business at once — from food preparation and quality control to marketing, customer service, and logistics. Being a small, family-run operation means wearing many hats every day.

There are also challenges related to operating from home, such as regulations, logistics, and making sure we maintain a professional and reliable experience for our customers.

However, each of these challenges has helped us grow. We’ve learned how to adapt, improve our processes, and connect more deeply with our customers. Today, those early obstacles have shaped the strong foundation we continue to build on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about New Hope Sushi ?
New Hope Sushi is a small, family-run business based in McKinney, Texas, specializing in Brazilian-style sushi — a unique fusion that combines traditional Japanese techniques with bold Brazilian flavors and creativity.

We focus on offering a personalized and high-quality experience through pick-up, delivery, and private in-home sushi events. One of our signature services is our all-you-can-eat sushi experience at home, where we bring a full sushi setup directly to our clients, creating a memorable and interactive dining experience for gatherings, celebrations, and special occasions.

What sets us apart is not only our flavor profile, but also our approach. Brazilian-style sushi is known for being more creative, indulgent, and approachable, often featuring warm items, unique combinations, and a strong attention to presentation. We aim to deliver something different from the traditional sushi experience available in the area.

As a small business, we take pride in the level of care and attention we give to every order. From ingredient selection to final presentation, everything is made with intention. We value consistency, customer connection, and the ability to adapt to each client’s needs.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of building something from the ground up that reflects our identity, culture, and passion for food. New Hope Sushi represents more than just a meal — it represents a unique experience, created with heart, creativity, and dedication.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is building something meaningful — not just a business, but something that reflects who I am, my culture, and my values.

Family is a big part of that. New Hope Sushi is a family-run business, and everything we do is centered around creating experiences that bring people together. Whether it’s a small dinner or a larger gathering, being part of those moments is something I truly value.

I also care deeply about quality and consistency. Every order represents our name, so I always aim to deliver something I would be proud to serve to my own family. That level of care is something I never compromise on.

Another important aspect is growth — both personally and professionally. Starting from scratch in a new country comes with challenges, but it also creates opportunities to learn, adapt, and build something from the ground up.

At the end of the day, what matters most is creating something real — something that people can feel, trust, and come back to.
