Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Murray.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story with Georgie’s Snow Shack really started with an opportunity and a vision.
We purchased the stand from the original owner, George Willis, who had already built something special in the community. It wasn’t just a snow cone stand—it had personality, relationships, and a loyal customer base. We saw that as a foundation we could build on, not replace.
Going into our first year, our goal wasn’t just to keep it running—it was to grow it, modernize some systems, and create a better overall experience for both customers and our team. We focused on tightening up operations, tracking our numbers daily, improving scheduling, and really leaning into marketing through social media and community engagement.
At the same time, we wanted to keep the heart of what made Georgie’s special. That meant keeping George involved, maintaining the fun, family-friendly atmosphere, and making sure every customer interaction felt personal.
Our first year has been about learning fast, making adjustments, and building momentum. We’ve had some record days, grown our customer traffic, and created a stronger structure behind the scenes to support long-term success.
Where we are today is a blend of honoring what was built before us and putting systems in place to scale it moving forward. And we’re just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road—but that’s really been part of the growth.
One of the biggest challenges early on was building an entirely new team. When you take over an existing business, you don’t just inherit operations—you have to make sure you have the right people in place. Hiring, training, and getting everyone aligned with our standards and culture took time and effort, especially during a busy season.
Another big adjustment was updating our technology and systems. We wanted to run the business more efficiently, which meant putting better tracking in place for sales, payroll, and daily operations. That transition wasn’t always seamless—it took some trial and error to find what worked best and to get everyone comfortable using it.
We also made a shift toward marketing through social media, which was new for this business. Learning how to consistently post, create engaging content, and actually drive traffic from platforms like Facebook and TikTok was a learning curve. But it’s been a huge factor in helping us grow and reach new customers.
So no, it hasn’t been perfect—but every challenge forced us to improve. Looking back, those struggles are what helped us build a stronger team, better systems, and a more scalable business moving forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Georgie’s Snow Shack?
Georgie’s Snow Shack is more than just a place to grab a snow cone—it’s a local, family-focused experience built around quality, consistency, and community.
At our core, we specialize in delivering a great product fast, with a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Whether someone is coming through the drive-thru on a busy day or stopping by with their family, we want every interaction to feel easy, positive, and memorable. That’s something we’ve worked hard to systemize behind the scenes so the experience is consistent every time.
What really sets us apart is the combination of personality and professionalism. We’ve kept the character and legacy that George originally built, while adding structure—better systems, stronger team training, and a more intentional customer experience. It’s not just about selling snow cones; it’s about running a tight operation that can grow while still feeling personal.
We’ve also leaned heavily into connecting with our community, especially through social media. We’re constantly engaging with customers, creating fun and relevant content, and giving people a reason to come back beyond just the product. That connection has been a big driver of our growth.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is that Georgie’s feels like something people are part of—not just something they buy from. When people come in, they recognize the team, they know what to expect, and they enjoy the experience. That consistency and community connection is what we’re building on long term.
What we’d want readers to know is this: we’re committed to doing things the right way—great product, great service, and a business that’s built to last. We’re always improving, always growing, and always focused on creating an experience people want to come back to.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is how intentional and detailed we are behind the scenes when it comes to making the “perfect” snow cone.
From the outside, it looks simple—but we’ve developed a very specific process for building what we call the ultimate snow cone. It starts with the texture of the ice—we focus on getting it as soft and fluffy as possible so it actually absorbs the flavor instead of letting it run straight through. Then it’s about how the syrup is layered, not just poured on top. We build it in stages so every bite has flavor, not just the first few sips.
We also pay attention to things most people wouldn’t think about—like the consistency of the syrup, the balance of sweetness, and even how full the cup is packed so customers feel like they’re getting real value.
Another piece people may not realize is how much we’ve systemized that process. It’s not just one person making a great snow cone—it’s training our entire team to do it the exact same way every time, so whether you come on a Monday afternoon or a busy Saturday, you get the same quality experience.
So while people know us for being fun and community-driven, what they might not know is how much precision and consistency goes into delivering that experience. That’s really what sets us apart.
