Daily Inspiration: Meet Tamekia Thrower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamekia Thrower.

Tamekia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I really got started during COVID, when life slowed down and gave me space to learn more about myself and what I actually enjoyed. That’s when I discovered my interest in crafting and creating.

A friend of mine, serial entrepreneur Porsha Ingram, challenged me with some ‘homework’ to create something I could confidently walk into any room and sell.

I took that seriously and started designing custom art pieces for her upcoming beauty spa. That experience pushed me to tap into my creativity, build confidence in my work, and turn something I enjoyed into something more intentional.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Life alone brings challenges, but losing my best friend during the peak of my creative phase really paused everything for me.

I had to step back, heal, and find my way back to creating

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
This is a hard question because my creativity isn’t boxed in.. I create what I feel, when I feel it. I think that’s what really sets me apart.

I’m still tapping into my creative energy and discovering the different levels of art I want to explore, but right now I specialize in abstract pieces that are deeply personal and expressive.

What I’m most proud of is a remembrance vase I created. It’s made with real feathers I found over the course of two years—different places, different moments in my life. The piece also holds small items I collected during that time, and most importantly, it contains my loved one’s ashes sealed inside.

That piece means everything to me because it tells a story, holds emotion, and preserves a connection that will always be a part of me.

What are your plans for the future?
Oh, big plans and changes are definitely on the way. I’m still moving with intention and allowing my creativity to guide me, so I won’t share all the details just yet.

But I’m excited about what’s ahead and the evolution of my work—so stay connected and keep up with the art I create.
