Rising Stars: Meet Mordecai Arthur of Dallas, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mordecai Arthur.

Hi Mordecai, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Yeah, so I started off in highschool knowing I wanted to create or build some type of business without knowing what I actually wanted to do. I bounced between wanting to start a clothing brand, graphic designing, sneaker reselling, and more. I have always been told that the best things come when you least expect it and that’s what happened to me. Growing up in the church is like a hub to learn so much new things around so many different types of people so every now and then I would be told to pick up a camera. I met some amazing photographers at a young age just by simply having conversations not knowing that’s something I would end up loving. I also got into modeling a bit which also gave me some more perspective on what I wanted to do, having realized that I have a great eye for things and am naturally good at capturing the best moments. That’s how I got here; by using my soft skills and traits to my advantage and capitalizing on one of the gifts that God has given me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it hasn’t. It comes with a lot of positives but surely many negatives. A big thing when working in the creative space is working with people and accommodating to what people need. Sometimes you don’t always meet the standard that someone else has already set and that’s where it takes humbleness and resiliency to remember who you’re doing it for. Once you believe your doing it for yourself, you’ve already failed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m photographer and musician on my free time and I also love creating new ideas that can lead into anything big (creating an impact). I’m most proud of the resiliency in this race. I’ve had to shift my perspective on a lot of things to grow. Mentally I’ve been through a lot but the God I serve has never failed me in any way, shape, or form. My discipline sets me apart from a lot. I’ve always been one to always be on my toes and to catch the new wave and educated myself on how I can better my community an environment. I will always believe that my 9-5 will never be the end of my success and that the weight of entrepreneurship is what sets my finish line. A question I always ask my self is “What will I do to make sure I’m
Not left behind” because planning doesn’t make you productive or successful, what you do takes you where you want to be.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
There’s no luck in my life and business. Everything was set in my life before it even started. Choices were made good and bad but it all shaped me. I think of it like a gps. God has created the highway and knows the destination and I’m just driving. If I make a mistake or there’s any “bad luck” the gps will just reroute me and I’ll eventually make it, my eta might be delayed but I will make it.
