Conversations with Devron Roy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devron Roy.

Hi Devron, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s been a rocky road for me. Started off switching majors in college because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. While I was looking I got back into photography and immediately fell in love with film. That’s when I wanted to pursue cinematography. I was going to film school full time, studying for my FAA license while also working full time. Ended up graduating with an associates degree in Digital Cinematography. Still working on getting my drone license. But with God I continue to put one foot in front of the other.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Switching majors in College, going from warehouse job to warehouse job and struggling to work with people regarding film production. It’s been tough but God keeps me going.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in cinematography along with Editing as well. I am mostly known for my work within my Church. But recently I have been finding new clients to work with. I am mostly proud of the fact that I worked so hard to get to this point in my life and it’s only going to get better from here.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to talk to people. Be bold in your own way but humble when you need to be. Don’t seek glory or validation from anyone. Even within the industry you’re in. You know who you are and who you represent. Be yourself and let people know the real you.
