Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Rainwater.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Britt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Le Claire, IA. My mom had me in dance at the age of three and I stopped dancing when I was 18 years old. I grew up in Scottsdale, AZ – also spending a few years in all girls boarding school in Bend, OR.
I graduated with a BA in Communications with a specialization in Advertising and PR from Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. I also attended Southern Methodist University where I completed a transfer study in Constitutional Law. I studied European Mass Media abroad throughout the Mediterranean and have gained worldwide experience living and working in Shanghai, China.
I completed my 200-Hour Yoga Alliance Teaching Training and Certification in February 2013 while managing digital and social media strategy for a full-service global marketing firm headquartered in Dallas, TX. I began teaching 6 am yoga classes before work and 6 pm classes after I would get off. I fell in love with teaching yoga this way.
After the birth of our first son, Pierce. I decided to take a leap of faith and started teaching yoga full-time. I knew not having health insurance and the security of a company contributing to my 401(k) would be risky, but it was the practice of yoga and teaching it to others that truly fulfilled and inspired me. I quickly started auditioning at all the top yoga studios in studios in Dallas and filled my schedule with classes.
Over the past 4-5 years, I’ve worked relentlessly to give my students an experience of themselves & push them to reach their fullest potential in every class. I personally practice yoga and meditate daily. I pour countless hours of preparation into the planning of my weekly class sequences, centering themes and music. I rarely sub out my classes – even throughout the duration of 2 pregnancies in the past three years, I still taught up until the day I went into labor with both babies. I seek out, research online and attend much training annually to further my continued YTT education hours. I also try to stay close to my mentor and teacher, who trained me, Susie Caicedo. In yoga, it is said that the student should “stay near or sit close to his or her teacher.” Whenever I see her, I love to talk to her for as long as time permits. I feel comfortable with her, I know I can ask her anything and she will tell me like it is. There should be a true and natural connection to the one who teaches you.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You have to develop a thick skin in this business and keep going even if you experience rejection. My first piece of advice would be to carve out a niche for yourself. Determine what it is that you want to focus on in your classes and what kind of experience you’re most passionate about delivering.
Second, start acting confident until you feel that way. If you question yourself, your students will sense that and begin to question your guidance too. Third, be yourself when you teach, people want to connect with you, not your alter-ego. Most importantly, believe in yourself! You must “trust your work”. Your students will find you.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
At the beginning of this year I was voted Best Yoga Instructor in Dallas, TX via Studio Hop. I currently teach Yoga at Equinox, We Yogis (all three locations) and Lifetime Athletic Dallas. My Yoga Students are my biggest source of inspiration.

So, if you or anyone you know in DFW is interested in becoming an ambassador please reach out to me, I would love to meet you at one of our monthly local events!
