Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Thomas.
Seth, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Social Fiber is unique in that the concept was actually developed as a group design project in college in 2012. It sat stagnant for four years as I navigated the design world after graduation but was re-born through a conviction God placed on my heart to utilize my skills and abilities for Him. It wasn’t until 2016 that Social Fiber was established as a legal entity and not until 2017 that we launched our first hat design. We are diligently working at building up our product line and attracting new loving fans.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Social Fiber is a humanitarian apparel brand based out of Arlington, Tx. We are a husband and wife team dedicated to following the conviction of our hearts to serve the kingdom of God. By utilizing our God-given skills & abilities we hope to share the gospel of hope with the world. We create because God creates and God created us. We love others because God first loved us.
We hope that people are challenged and inquisitive of our designs. We hope that readers are encouraged by our blog and the words we write. We hope that the love of Jesus Christ is evident in all that we do, from the way our business operates, to the content we produce, to the interactions we have with customers and vendors alike.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
I don’t have a ton of experience under my belt. I’ve only been designing professionally for about 5 or 6 years now and only been working on Social Fiber full-time since January of 2018.
However, I think the biggest thing I’ve learned so far is that everything is both not as difficult and more difficult than I imagined. What I mean by that is I tend to assume things are a lot harder to accomplish than they really are. So, my advice is to just start and take steps towards pursuing your idea or dream. There are a lot of things that you learn along the way, but you aren’t going anywhere if you stay stagnant. Things don’t have to be perfect in order to get started. At the same time, there have been many difficulties and road blocks that I’ve hit that I had no idea even existed. I’d say to expect that to happen and learn to adjust and grow along the way. Don’t just give up at the first sign of trouble.
The other biggest lesson I’ve learned is to not compare. Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s really dangerous for me to spend too much time envying another store that has been around for 10-20 years and wonder why I’m not as successful as they are. It is one thing to have goals, admire someone, future dream, but you just have to take it one step at a time.
