Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Cade.
Nikki, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
In 2017 I quit my 11-year career as a special education instructor to pursue art fulltime. Since then I have adopted minimalism and focused on traveling, painting, and growing my brand. I now have a collection of travel accessories with Anthropologie and just wrapped up a mural for American Airlines. I am fortunate to have new and exciting projects in my pipeline but it’s scary because nothing is certain. It takes a lot of courage to walk away from a steady paycheck. In addition to collaborations with retailers, I have also launched a travel company called Global Goddess Tours with my friend Lily Chin. It’s all about helping women satisfy their wanderlust, while creating from the heart and giving back with a global mindset.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I started out painting world globes which then translated to map making. I love to travel so creating on these substrates made sense to me. I just want to inspire people to wander and wonder with my art. Being from a small town it easy to see how limiting beliefs, though, and actions can be. I’ve always wanted to break free from that and art is sort of a pathway for that. My work is always changing and evolving. It looks different than It did even a year ago and will continue to change.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Selling work! It’s tough and you have to constantly put yourself out there.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can see my mural if you are ever at the admiral’s club in DFW airport terminal A. You can see my travel accessories online and in stores at Anthropologie and anthropologie.com. You see my latest works via Instagram @nikkicadestudio and my personal website www.nikkicadestudio.com
