Meet Donald Williams of Princess Records

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donald Williams.

Donald is committed to singing God’s word. His desire is to provide God’s inspiration to others as they face trials and tribulations along the way through his original gospel music. “If anyone can attest to how our life’s journey can take us down a path filled with obstacles and difficulties, it is he. Yet when we hit life’s sharp curves, we should always remember to walk by faith.” Williams debut CD -From God, which he is executive producer, is a testimony of how his trust in God has shaped and guided his life to where he is today.

At the age of five, Donald began singing at a church in Jefferson, Texas; but as life’s path of twist and turns would have it, he was also exposed to the nightclub at an early age. As the stepson of a nightclub owner, it is the nightclub where his professional career began. Taking center stage at the age of thirteen, Williams appeared with famous artists such as Bobby Bland, B. B. King, The Coasters, the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, Little Milton, The Nightingales, Johnny Taylor, O. V. Wright and his all-time favorite, Mr. James Brown.

He has also appeared at the Apollo Theatre in New York City, New York, The Reunion Arena, Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas and various cable television programs. Other performers were quick to respond to his success. By following his lead, Williams inadvertently created a whole new school of pleasing the crowds. Yet as successful as Williams was, these accomplishments did not completely fill the void in his soul. Led by the spiritual prompting of the One above, Williams left the center stage as Prince D L Williams (stage name) and now wears a servant’s crown in the King’s court.

Williams return to gospel music has provided inspiration for a broad range of followers. He combines his love and passion for music with his love and passion for Jesus Christ. He sings, “I Never thought I would be doing what I’m doing today.” He sees the beautiful plan of God being worked out in his life, which is greater than he could ever have planned or imagined. By allowing God to use him to fill the void only God can fill, Williams can truly say, “He took a good for nothing and made him good for something.” With his innovative and creative stage performance, this Louisiana native has harvested a following of fans throughout the Southern USA as well as abroad.

The very motivation for his ever-evolving style is to keep his identity with Christ prevalent in his life as well as in his works. Besides his debut CD, he has recording releases-I Don’t Want to Lose This Feeling and You and Me-on his record label, Princess Records. Most recently he appeared on Bobby Jones presents live at the Fontanel that was later was aired on Impact Television with Bobby Jones. With more than 30 years dedicated to the music industry, Williams feels that his return to real gospel music will have its greatest influence. He explains that in his heart, he has a deep desire to make a difference. He conveys a message in song from God and the audience picks up on his testimony.

A member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, Williams has stepped out of his comfort zone by being responsive to the community’s spiritual needs. He performs for the elderly in retirement homes as well as churches throughout the community and surrounding areas. Listening to God’s call has molded Williams’ life into something greater than he could have ever imagined possible. He says “He is the reason why I sing and dance.” God does nothing without purpose. Everything is in His perfect plan.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been many financial challenges along the way.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Princess records is a small record label and booking agency located in the southwest sector of the Metroplex… I book, promote other artist and write music. I am most known for my on-stage performances. I am most proud of the music that I have written. My musical style is what sets me apart from other artists.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I don’t feel that this city is best for my business type, however, if we could get more support to help get the music of beginning artist out, it would attract more artist here.
