Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Marshall.
Hi Bridgette, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I studied Fashion Marketing at El Centro College, and while I was in school, I started my first retail job at Crossroads Trading Co. What began as an entry-level role quickly turned into a passion, and over the years I worked my way up to Store Manager.
During my time at Crossroads, I built strong relationships within the Greenville Avenue retail and resale community. I loved connecting with customers, collaborating with neighboring businesses, and creating an environment where people genuinely wanted to shop and spend time.
Those experiences and connections ultimately led me to my current role as Store Director at Favor the Kind. Favor the Kind is a boutique built on a foundation of kindness, community, and fun, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to help grow that vision. I’ve had the opportunity to lead an amazing team, create community-driven events, and focus on building memorable experiences that keep people coming back. Looking back, every step of my journey has reinforced that retail is about so much more than selling products—it’s about creating meaningful connections with people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think those moments have shaped me into the leader I am today. During my time at Crossroads Trading Co., our store experienced some major transitions. We originally opened in Deep Ellum, but due to rising rent costs and safety concerns, we made the decision to relocate to Greenville Avenue. Then, after building an incredible community there, we ultimately had to close our doors because of lease agreements.
As difficult as those changes were, they taught me how to adapt, lead through uncertainty, and stay focused on the people around me. I learned that even when circumstances are out of your control, you can still choose your attitude and continue showing up for your team and your customers.
I try to live by the mindset that everything happens for a reason. Looking back, if those challenges hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have found my way to Favor the Kind—a place that aligns so closely with my values and the kind of community I love being a part of. We’re all big Talking Heads fans at the store, so I like to remind myself of the lyric, “This Must Be the Place.” It always feels like a good reminder that sometimes the unexpected path is the one that leads you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to say that wearing many hats is one of my biggest strengths. As Store Director at Favor the Kind, no two days look the same, and that’s exactly what I love about it.
One of the things I’m most proud of is bringing a little bit of my resale background into the boutique through our buyback program, Sweet Repeat. It gives our customers a sustainable way to shop while incorporating brands they already know and love.
Beyond that, I’ve had the opportunity to create experiences that bring people together. From hosting community classes like cake decorating and sourdough workshops to organizing larger events like our monthly sidewalk sales and Mama Mixers, I love finding ways to make the store more than just a place to shop. I want it to feel like a place where people connect, create memories, and feel like they’re part of something.
I’m also incredibly proud of the team we’ve built. We’ve created a culture where kindness comes first, and everyone is genuinely invested in making each customer’s experience special. At the end of the day, that’s what I want us to be known for. Of course we want people to find something they love, but even more than that, I want every person who walks through our doors to leave feeling seen, welcomed, and with a little extra spark of kindness.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a family of creatives, so creativity has always been a huge part of who I am. When I was little, I was convinced I was going to be an artist. Our house was always full—there was an art room, music playing in the background, and a lot of laughter. It was the kind of home where making things and expressing yourself was encouraged.
One of my biggest inspirations has always been my mom. She’s worked at Ziziki’s for over 30 years, and she has customers who have known her since she was pregnant with me. To this day, they still come in just to see her. We always joke that we can’t go anywhere without her stopping to have a conversation or running into someone she knows.
Watching the way she connects with people taught me that the little interactions matter. She makes everyone feel like an old friend, and that’s something I’ve always admired. I think that naturally carried over into my own career. Whether it’s with customers, my team, or our community, I want people to leave feeling seen, welcomed, and genuinely cared for. That’s probably the biggest thing I took from my childhood, and it’s something I try to bring with me every day.
