Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaheer Naqvi.
Hi Shaheer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My producing partner Mason Jendel and I met in high school in AV class. We were among the few students that actually cared about the work we were doing and making short films and music videos. Unfortunately instead of joining forces and working together as a team, we saw each other as rivals and constantly tried to one up one another. After high school in an effort to let bygones and bygones, I reached out to Mason to act in a short film I was writing and directing. After that moment, we formed a strong creative relationship and have been making films together ever since. To date we have produced over 10 short films and as of 2026 we have secured a distribution deal with X4 Pictures for our award-winning debut feature film titled Nowhere Fast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any creative aspirations, we’ve faced our fair share of roadblocks along the way. From dwindling creative relationships, to budgetary restrictions, to film festival drama…we’ve dealt with it all! Despite these challenges, we continue to stick true to our goal of telling strong stories and don’t let anything stop us from doing so.
As you know, we’re big fans of Blue Neptune Pictures. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Blue Neptune Pictures is an independent film production company that I (Shaheer Naqvi) founded back in 2016. The goal was to create inspiring, thought provoking films that we’ve always wanted to see for ourselves made in our hometown. We rarely saw DFW highlighted in film/television and wanted to showcase our stomping grounds. If we had an idea for a story, we come together to develop it and if the story needed to be told we would tell it! Over the years we’ve began to add more projects to our library by taking on more of a producing involvement in films and we hope to continue to do so in an even greater capacity in the coming years.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be entertaining my parents and relatives with my cousins. Every time my cousins and I would get together, we would put on a performance for our parents. This ranged from live dance/singing to making home videos on our parents tape camcorders.
