Today we’d like to introduce you to Lancky Cresco.
Hi Lancky , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey with music began long before I ever stepped into a recording studio. Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, I was always surrounded by rhythm and sound. As a kid, I would drum on buckets, cans, and anything I could find, perform in school bands, and play drums at church. Music wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was a part of who I was.
As I grew older, I listened to every genre I could find, from African music and hip-hop to R&B, soul, classical, and pop. Those influences helped shape my sound and taught me that great music has no boundaries. By the end of high school, I had recorded my first song, and I knew I wanted to pursue music seriously.
At the same time, I honored my family’s wishes by going to school, which I chose something that I could also be of service, I came to realize that nursing and music share the same purpose: helping people. Nursing heals the body, while music can heal the mind and spirit. That belief inspired my vision of “Mente Music”—music that encourages, uplifts, and creates meaningful emotional connections.
After moving to Dallas, Texas, I continued building my career as an independent artist, producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur,
Every project I’ve released reflects a chapter of my journey and my desire to create something authentic. I don’t make music just to follow trends—I make music that tells stories, inspires hope, and reminds people they’re not alone. My goal has always been to create a sound that is original, timeless, and impactful.
Looking back, I’m grateful for every experience that has shaped me. From a young boy drumming on household objects in Nigeria to an independent artist reaching listeners around the world, my journey has been built on faith, perseverance, hard work, and a passion for using music to make a positive difference. And I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning the art of audio engineering. I realized that creating great music wasn’t enough—it also had to sound great. So I dedicated myself to learning how to record, mix, and master my own music to deliver the best possible listening experience for my audience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician, songwriter, producer, audio engineer, and registered nurse. As an independent artist, I specialize in creating music that blends Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, soul, and melodic pop into a sound that is uniquely my own. I write, produce, record, mix, and master much of my own music because I believe every detail matters when it comes to delivering the message and emotion behind each song.
One thing I’m most proud of is building my career independently while staying true to my vision. I didn’t just want to make music—I wanted to understand every part of the creative process. That meant taking the time to learn audio engineering so I could produce music at the highest quality and ensure that listeners experience my songs exactly as I intended.
What truly sets me apart is my philosophy of “Mente Music.” I believe music should do more than entertain—it should inspire, heal, and leave a lasting impact. My background as a registered nurse has reinforced that belief because both music and healthcare are about helping people. Whether I’m caring for someone in a hospital or creating a song in the studio, my goal is the same: to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
At the end of the day, I want my music to connect with people on a deeper level. I strive to create timeless records with meaningful lyrics, authentic emotion, and world-class production. Every project is an opportunity to grow as an artist and to leave listeners with something they can carry with them long after the music ends.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Another thing people may not know is that I produce, record, mix, and master much of my own music. I didn’t just want to be an artist—I wanted to understand every part of the creative process. Learning audio engineering took years of study and practice, but it gave me the ability to bring my ideas to life exactly the way I hear them.
I also draw inspiration from many different genres and cultures. I grew up listening to everything from African music and hip-hop to soul, classical, and even Indian music. That diversity has shaped my sound and reinforced my belief that great music has no boundaries.
At my core, I’m someone who believes music should have purpose. Whether I’m helping someone through healthcare or through a song, my goal is the same: to leave people better than I found them.
