Hi Minaxi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I want to share my journey from Minaxi to DJ MINI.
My journey as a DJ started six years ago during COVID, but my story began much earlier. I am originally from India, where I owned and successfully ran my own beauty salon. After my husband’s job transfer, we moved to the United States, and I started working at a beauty salon here.
Music and dance have always been a huge part of my life. Back in India, I loved dancing and was always connected to music. Even after moving here, I continued to dance and would go out with friends to clubs once a month. However, there weren’t many Bollywood dance opportunities like I was used to.
Then COVID happened, and everything shut down. That gave me time to think about what truly made me happy. I realized that music was my passion. I loved dancing, but I didn’t see myself making a career in dance or singing. That’s when I decided to learn DJing.
I trained as a DJ for several months and practiced every day. While continuing my salon job, I also started working with an event management company because I wanted to learn everything about the event industry- from sound systems and event planning to what it takes to be a successful DJ.
After working there for about a year, I started playing at my friends’ birthday parties and family events completely free of charge. I invested my own money to buy equipment and set everything up because I believed in myself and wanted to gain experience.
Slowly, through word of mouth, satisfied clients, and a lot of hard work, my name started spreading. One event led to another, and today many people know me as DJ MINI.
This journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been challenges, ups and downs, and moments of doubt. But I never gave up because I truly love what I do.
Today, every time I stand behind the DJ console and see people smiling, dancing, and creating memories, I feel grateful that I followed my passion.
My message to everyone is simple: Never be afraid to start from zero. If you believe in yourself, work hard, and stay consistent, your passion can become your identity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started my DJ career, I wasn’t as young as many of the other DJs in the industry. At first, I wondered if I would be able to compete with the well-established DJs.
Another challenge was competing with DJs who already had years of experience, a strong reputation, and a loyal client base. Breaking into the industry and earning people’s trust was not easy.
There were moments of self-doubt, but I never let them stop me. Instead, I focused on improving my skills, learning something new every day, and giving my best at every event, no matter how big or small.
Most importantly, I was fortunate to have incredible support from my family and friends. They believed in me even when I questioned myself, and their encouragement gave me the confidence to keep moving forward.
With passion, dedication, consistency, and hard work, I slowly created my own identity. Today, I am proud to have earned my place in this industry – not by competing with others, but by becoming the best version of myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have performed at a variety of events, including birthday parties, weddings, graduations, engagements, Bollywood events, anniversaries, sweet sixteen, Dholki events and Indian cultural celebrations.
Whenever I perform at an event, I don’t just play music – I become part of the celebration. Dancing has always been my hobby, and music is my passion, so I enjoy sharing my energy with the crowd. I can dance and perform for hours, sometimes continuously for five hours, while creating a fun and positive atmosphere. Seeing people smile, dance, and enjoy the music I play is the biggest happiness and reward for me.
My main focus is always on customer satisfaction. For me, it is not just about monetary benefits-it is about creating memorable experiences, understanding my clients’ occasions, and making every event truly special.
My passion for music, my connection with people, and my commitment to delivering the best experience are what set me apart in this industry.
