Meet Nikkita Torres of Neutral Voice Mediation LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikkita Torres.

Hi Nikkita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Almost 3 years ago I started my own mediation practice, Neutral Voice Mediation. I started my practice for multiple reasons. One being, not enough people know they have this valuable resource and so many people still don’t even know what mediation is or what a mediator does. I want to bring more awareness to what mediation is and how it helps our communities resolve conflicts, keep crime rates down, and restore peace. Another reason is my own personal history, growing up with parents who divorced and seeing the nasty mess it caused and realizing now as an adult how it affected me as a child. My last reason is my work in personal injury. I quickly adapted the nickname “crazy client whisperer”. I had a gift for calming the crazy clients down but the clients were never actually crazy. They wanted someone to listen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started my practice when I was 32 years old. I had always dreamed of being an entrepreneur and having my own flexible schedule but never knew how I would do it and I was scared honestly. I had never owned a business before and I didn’t have anyone who could walk me through it. I spent a lot of nights researching on Google, reddit, blogs, about starting a business so I can learn how to do the LLC and all the tax stuff and get insurance. When I started, I was still working a full time job from 9:30 am to 6:30pm. It was hard. My job was so draining, often times I would be too tired to work on my business. I had a limited schedule and could only take clients before work, during lunch, or after work. Then came illnesses, I had 2 surgeries in the span of a year. My most recent surgery for stage 4 endometriosis. I had to completely stop working to focus on recovery and getting well. I didn’t take any clients and didn’t really post on social media. During this time of not working actually helped me so much. I had time to reflect and think about what I really wanted and what was important to me. Soon after, I quit my 9-5 and in less than a month grew my business so much. It was incredible.

We’ve been impressed with Neutral Voice Mediation LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mediation is a voluntary process when parties, who are in a conflict, hire a mediator to help them resolve a conflict. People who have heard of mediation may believe its a legal process and something that judges require whwn you have already started litigation but its actually available to anyone at any time. Mediation should be the first option before going to court and is an amazing resource that can be used for any conflict. As a mediator, I have helped neighbors resolve disputes over fences and property lines, sat with co-parents to create detailed parenting plans, helped landlords resolve disputes with tenants, and even helped business owners resolve business disputes, and so much more. In my practice, I believe and encourage parties to find creative solutions and restore relationships because the conflict may be with a parent, neighbor, teacher, or colleague who you have to continue to share a space with. The mediators job is to be neutral and unbiased, meaning we dont take sides. Mediators help people have those hard conversations and overcome impasses, all while the conflicting parties are finding creative solutions to their problems together. That is why I love mediation. As a mediator, I don’t decide the outcome, my clients do. They have complete control over the process and outcome. Unlike litigation, when a judge imposes a judgement on them that neither of them may like. I offer online divorce, neighbor, landlord-tenant, and co-parenting mediation so I can help anyone from the comfort of their home in Dallas or the state of Texas. Im most well known for my parenting plans. I have spent the last 3 years perfecting them with the help of licensed family therapists. When I first started co-parenting mediations, I noticed a lot of parents who came to me already had parenting plans but there was so much gray area leading to continued conflict. I now offer detailed parenting plans that are created uniquely for each family and they come with a 90 day period to try out the plan in real life. If they decide they need to make a change, they can come back to me to adjust at no extra charge within 90 days. My consultations are always free.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
