Hidden Gems: Meet Courtney Hugghins of Hugghins Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hugghins.

Hi Courtney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After 17 years of working with financial databases in corporate IT, I decided to make the leap into owning my own business. It’s something I’d always wanted to do. I researched various options, and talked to a few Realtors. I knew pretty quickly that would be my next career. I’ve been a residential Realtor for 12 years now and love it! God was in the timing of that career change. I’d been a Realtor for 4 years when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and passed away within 10 months. If I hadn’t already made the career change and established my business when he passed, I wouldn’t have taken that risk. Working on 100% commission as a single mom would have been too risky of a change to make after his passing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course my husband’s passing has been the biggest obstacle in my career and life. Definitely not a smooth ride, but the challenges in life have taught me so much! It’s not uncommon to experience obstacles during the buying and selling process with clients, from difficult home inspections, problems qualifying for a mortgage, closing delays, etc. Having been through significant loss, I’ve learned perspective that keeps me calm when the obstacles arise in real estate. Being able to keep calm and guide my clients through these obstacles also helps keep my clients calm and reassures them that I will guide them through the tough situations.

As you know, we’re big fans of Hugghins Realty. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a residential Realtor with RE/MAX Four Corners in McKinney. I focus mostly on helping buyers and sellers in the cities north of Dallas. But as a native of North Texas, I work all over DFW. I enjoy working with first time buyers as it’s fun to educate them on the home buying process. I also enjoy bringing grandparents into our area to be near grandkids and family. Helping families sell their homes so they can move on to their next home is also something I love.

Though the process of buying or selling a home is repetitive, every transaction is different. The people, homes and situations are still very different and special. They each require attention to detail, great communication and the expertise I’ve built over the last 12 years.

I’m most proud of the fact that 100% of my business comes from returning customers, referrals from them, and the great business relationships I’ve built in mortgage, title, and other trades. I pride myself in taking great care of my clients, strong communication, and builidng relationships beyond the sale.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
So many things make me happy! I enjoy time with my family, especially now that I’m an empty-nester. I love any time I can get with my twin, college-aged daughters! I enjoy jogging, pickleball, reading, travel, Texas A&M sports, and Texas Rangers baseball.

I also serve on some nonprofit boards, and co-lead a faith based small group. I truly love serving in my community and the people I’ve gotten to know through service. Serving others has been a big part of my healing journey as well.
