Hidden Gems: Meet Juan & Gabriel Mercado of Indestructible Construction and Remodeling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan & Gabriel Mercado.

Hi Juan & Gabriel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We would love to. I (Juan) was working in Real Estate when my son was young, while prospecting I asked someone “hey, are you interested in buying land.” He was not interested in at the time but, he then let me know that he was looking for subcontractors to do sheetrock work In Dallas. I had a friend at the time who offered sheetrock work and I in that moment was reminded how I always wanted to get into construction so I talked to my friend who was overwhelmed with work at the time and I decided to partner with him to help take on the extra workload and was able to see first hand how our $4000 contract turned into 450k. I fell in love with the industry and I did construction until the economic crash of 2008. Years later, my future son in law, who was a subcontractor doing roofing contracts and he asked based on my experience if I could help direct contracts with home owners to which I agreed. I started helping him and we did 45 roofs in the first year, I quickly noticed how often those customers would ask us for other work so we started building our crews and we continued to do remodels + new additions then eventually new builds. My son in law & daughter moved to another town and we continued our work in the Plano/Dallas area. Years later, when my son Gabriel became by business partner, he became pivotal to our growth, taking on leadership with marketing, helping me build quotes, customer communication and so much more, I’m very happy to say that we’ve been able to double our revenue every year for the past 4 years, hold a 5 star rating on Google and A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It had not always been a smooth road. As we grow and expand, managing expenses and cash flow can become a major focus point along with being able to find replacements for crew members who move or shift careers, can be also be tricky, plus, being able to balance multiple jobs at once. We definitely focus on putting our best foot forward every day for our teams and are always able to navigate anything that may come up.

As you know, we’re big fans of Indestructible Construction and Remodeling . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re known for taking on the jobs no one wants and figuring out out to execute them! We’re most proud of treating people with respect and dignity and staying with them till the end. We don’t leave until they are happy.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love Any book by Jose Silva or Paul Selig and listen to their books daily. A notable favorite of mine is How to Win Friends and Influence people.
