Today we’d like to introduce you to Dramesha Spence.
Hi Dramesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Dallas and lived with my grandparents. I graduated from Kimball High School in 2008. At an early age, I experienced health complications that helped build and shape my character. I began making jewelry after a diagnosis of end stage kidney failure due to Lupus in 2022 and had to start doing peritoneal dialysis. This was draining and for some time I was unable to work. At first it started as a hobby to keep me busy, but once I began receiving compliments on my pieces, I decided to turn it into a small business. January 2026 I received a kidney transplant and with it came new energy and a second chance. I started applying and attending local markets as a vendor in hopes to continue to grow my business, Asé by Vonshay Handmade wrapped Jewelry and crystals. The support from my family and friends has helped me maintain my motivation to keep pushing me forward. I have to for myself and for my son, Joshua. Although my health is still a daily battle, I keep my faith in God and my thoughts positive.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy due to ongoing health problems. As I mentioned, I was able to get a kidney transplant from a donor after a 5 year wait. I have to take anti rejection meds for the rest of my life and avoid getting sick to prevent complications or rejection of the kidney. I returned to work after recovering in May, but just after a few weeks my body started to develop antibodies against new kidney. Once again I had to stop working to be admitted into hospital for treatment. I purchased a home in July 2025 and I have been able to maintain up until recent with not being able to work. My main job I work as a claims adjuster for auto claims. My health is priority and it’s something that I have to pay attention to in order to thrive. Everyday isn’t guaranteed but I try to stay positive because good mental health is key to good physical health.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently employed as a total loss specialist for a major auto insurance company. I have been in the insurance industry for 10 years. I enjoy helping people the most with my role. I get to help people during a time their life has been interrupted with an auto accident. From minor to severe losses, I get to assist customers through the process. I typically work Monday-Friday and dedicate weekends to jewelry making. I believe my heart is what sets me apart from most people. I have a big heart and being able to have empathy can go a long way in life and not only with my career. Being able to be personable and build rapport helps when I participate as a vendor to attract potential customers. When it comes to my jewelry, I have a very creative mind. I try to create custom pieces that all types of people would be interested in and try to find inspiration everywhere.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Staying in good health or maintaining good health is what matters most to me. With good health, I have life and I am able to keep living for myself and my son. Being a single parent, I want to be able to provide for my son, maintain my independence and set a good example. Being a first time homeowner, I am responsible for those monthly bills and only way to keep what I have obtained is to ensure I’m around to make those payments. Buying a home was a major goal for me and the fact that I was able to do it while struggling with health issues means a lot and I hope that I can continue doing what I need to do.
