Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Nester.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Established in 2011, Creek House Honey Farm began as a simple gardening project when the owners George and Paige Nester introduced honeybee hives to their garden and pumpkin patch. What started as a small hobby with a couple hives quickly evolved into a thriving apiary, marking the beginning of their journey into professional beekeeping.
Both George and Paige bring a unique perspective to their craft; George holds a doctorate in pharmacy, while Paige is a certified educator in biology and art. This shared passion for science has naturally turned into a complex business, encompassing beekeeping, beeswax skincare production, and fermentation of traditional mead.
The couple’s commitment to their vision reached a significant milestone in 2018 with the official opening of the Creek House Honey Farm retail store, which offered skincare and honey products. Fast forward to 2019, the Nesters opened Honey Buzz Winery, a restaurant and bar that serves honey-themed food products and mead. To support this venture, George concluded a 15-year career as a pharmacist in May 2018 to manage the winery full-time, while Paige transitioned from a distinguished 20-year teaching career to oversee the farm store operations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a business that has as many employees that we have on staff always has bumps in the road. Beekeeping itself is considered ‘farming or agriculture’ and with drought conditions in the panhandle along with high winds, it’s always a very difficult business to be in. Fortunately, we are able to move our hives to help better support them. We have also had to contract with other beekeepers to supply the amount of honey that our business now sells.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Creek House Honey Farm?
Creek House Honey Farm is mainly known for its beeswax skincare line and raw honey products. The skincare line was developed to support overall skin health and uses little or no preservatives or harsh chemicals. It can help with such things as eczema, rosacea, acne, and other skin ailments. The raw honey helps with inflammation, thus relieving seasonal allergies, digestion problems, burns and wounds. I feel like these two things are what set us apart from other brands. We are still considered a small business and we work with real, raw products on a small scale. Most people buy their honey from a grocery store or big chain food store and don’t realize that the honey they are buying is not real honey at all. It is most likely corn or rice syrup, high heated and ultra filtered to get all of the pollen and enzymes out, so that it doesn’t crystallize. The same thing goes for our skincare line. Most of the skincare items you can buy at a grocery store are full of chemicals and preservatives, making them no longer healthy for your body. At Creek House Honey Farm (since we are on a smaller scale), we still use real raw beeswax and real honey to aid in the healing process, unlike our larger competitors.
