Today we’d like to introduce you to Liberty Shumake.
Hi Liberty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was 20 years old when I made the decision to leave college, where I was studying pre-dentistry, and pursue a career in real estate. At the time, I truly had no idea what I was doing or exactly where the decision would lead me. I just felt strongly that the Lord was calling me into a career where I could serve others, build meaningful relationships, and make an impact in people’s lives.
I began my real estate career in Waco, Texas, working with Magnolia Realty. Starting there gave me the opportunity to learn the ropes of being a Realtor while being surrounded by and learning from some of the top producing agents in the Waco market. Those early years taught me so much about the industry, how to serve clients well, and what it really takes to build a career in real estate from the ground up.
Eventually, I made the decision to move back home to Dallas, where I grew up and knew the market and surrounding communities best. That move became such an important part of my career. I joined Century 21 Judge Fite Company in Rockwall, and that is where I really began to find my confidence as an agent and grow into the career I had chosen. I absolutely loved my time there. The leadership, support, and camaraderie within that office gave me an incredible environment to learn, grow, and really kick start my business.
In April of this year, I was given the opportunity to take another leap and join The Agency in Dallas. Since making that move, my career has grown more than I could have imagined. I am incredibly grateful for the people who have poured into me, especially my broker, Damon Williamson, and his wife, Megan, as well as my team leads, Ali Vollmer and Melissa Platt. Their leadership, encouragement, and belief in me have played such a meaningful role in pushing me to become a better agent and continue raising the expectations I have for myself.
Within my first three months at The Agency, I became a top producer in the office, ranking number eight and having the highest producing month of my career so far. It was one of those moments that made me look back at the 20-year-old version of myself who was terrified to leave college and realize just how faithful God has been through every season of this journey.
Alongside real estate, I also work in interior design with home builders, which has become another part of my career that I love. Real estate and design naturally go hand in hand, and having experience in both has given me a different perspective when it comes to helping clients see the potential in a home, understand what adds value, and ultimately create a place they love.
Every chapter of my career has taught me something different, and I genuinely would not change the path that brought me here. Leaving college was scary, and there were plenty of moments when I questioned whether I was making the right decision, but the Lord has continued to provide for me and open doors I never could have opened for myself. I feel incredibly blessed by His goodness and faithfulness in my life and career.
I still feel like I am only getting started. I plan to continue growing, challenging myself, serving my clients at the highest level I can, and exceeding the expectations I have set for myself. I am excited to see where this career takes me next and incredibly grateful for every person, opportunity, and experience that has gotten me to where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road, but I think that is part of what has made it so rewarding. Real estate can look very glamorous from the outside, but there is so much that happens behind the scenes. There have been slow seasons, deals that fell apart, financial uncertainty, difficult transactions, and plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was actually cut out for this career.
One of the biggest things I have had to learn is not to compare my journey to everyone around me. In this industry, you constantly see other people’s closings, listings, awards, and successes, but you rarely see the difficult seasons behind them. I have had times where I felt like I was doing everything I could and still wasn’t seeing the results I wanted.
There have absolutely been moments of doubt, but I have never been able to shake the feeling that this is what I am supposed to be doing. Every time I have felt discouraged or unsure of what was next, the Lord has continued to open another door. Looking back, some of the bumps along the way have led me to opportunities I never would have found otherwise, and I am incredibly grateful for where they have brought me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is centered around helping people through every stage of homeownership, whether that is buying, selling, investing, or building. I primarily serve Dallas and the surrounding areas and have loved growing into the Dallas luxury market as my career has progressed.
What sets me apart is my background in both real estate and interior design. Working with builders and design clients allows me to look at a home from a different perspective, whether I am helping a seller prepare their home for the market, helping a buyer see its potential, or guiding clients through a new build.
More than anything, I want to be known for how I take care of my clients. Real estate is personal, and my goal is to build relationships that last far beyond the closing table. I am most proud that my brand feels genuinely like me and is built around serving people well, working hard, and creating a career and reputation I am proud to put my name behind.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I have been incredibly fortunate throughout my career, but I would not necessarily call it luck. I truly believe the Lord has had His hand over my life and career from the beginning. There have been opportunities, relationships, and doors that have opened at exactly the right time that I could have never planned for myself.
That does not mean everything has come easily. I have worked incredibly hard and experienced plenty of setbacks, but even in the difficult seasons, I can look back and see how they redirected me toward something better. I think success is a combination of hard work, being willing to take risks, surrounding yourself with the right people, and trusting God with the things you cannot control. I feel extremely blessed by the opportunities I have been given, and I never want to take those for granted.
