Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Ocampo.
Hi Angelica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Informally, I’m a first-generation Latina who embraces the happy accidents that led me to my dream career. More formally, I’m a Client Partnership Supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi with a background in arts and marketing, and a passion for bringing creative ideas to life through strong partnerships.
After a few years of exploring different career paths, I landed my first role at an advertising agency where I was able to flex both my analytical and creative sides. I began focusing on strategy and account management, but over time my passion and aptitude for creative development grew. That evolution led to the opportunity to help build a creative team within the agency, an experience that shaped both my leadership style and my love for collaborative problem-solving.
Today, at Saatchi & Saatchi, I support the Client Partnership team on the Toyota account, helping navigate NASCAR initiatives and a range of special projects that help bring excitement to the brand.
Beyond my day-to-day role, I serve as one of the leads for the Saatchi Diversity Task Force, where we work to foster belonging and amplify diverse perspectives within the workplace. I’ve also spent the past eight years serving on the AAF Dallas Board of Directors, supporting initiatives focused on public service, higher education guidance, and scholarship programs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think my biggest obstacle was figuring out what was possible without much guidance on what a career path could look like. Like many first-gen kids, I had parents who wanted nothing more than to see their children have a better life, but they didn’t always have the answers or experience to help guide me. My family’s idea of success naturally centered around careers like finance or business – both great paths, but as someone who always wanted to be surrounded by creative minds, I couldn’t quite see myself in either.
That’s where perseverance and support became so important. I was incredibly fortunate to have parents who gave me the freedom to stumble through college, explore different career paths, and ultimately find the one I’m most proud of today. Beyond their support, my community played a huge role in helping me get here. I learned early on the importance of building and nurturing a strong network to surround yourself with people you can learn from, grow alongside, and ultimately create opportunities for one another. Looking back, I think that combination of perseverance, support, and community helped me navigate a path that I didn’t always know was possible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am and Client Partnership Supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi, an advertising agency partially based in Dallas. In my role, I have the opportunity to work with Toyota to create creative work that reaches audiences across North America through commercials, websites, and various other forms of advertising. I’ve been fortunate to work on some incredible projects, but I’m always most proud of the ones that bring both our client and internal teams together to collaborate, tell great stories, and create work we’re all excited to share.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is always to nurture your network. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without learning to put myself out there – not just to find someone who might connect me to my next opportunity, but to truly understand the value of building relationships. Through those experiences, I’ve developed the soft skills needed to build meaningful connections with both my teams and my clients. To me, networking isn’t just about what someone can do for you; it’s about creating genuine relationships where you can learn from, support, and grow with one another. As Simon Sinek said, “A team is not a group of people who work together, but a group of people who trust each other.” I think that same idea applies to your broader network: the strongest connections are built on trust.
