Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Gassos.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Mexico and moved to Anaheim, CA when I was five. My mom’s job transferred us to Dallas when I was 12 just in time to start 7th grade in Coppell. I graduated from Coppell in 2004 and Texas Women’s University in 2009. I was a Business major with a marketing concentration. Since I graduated college during the recession I stayed at my college job at the Apple Store for a couple more years until I got my first corporate job at Borden Dairy in Dallas. I only stayed a year before joining SodaStream as a merchandiser. I had to travel all over Texas and surrounding states to different retailers. I got a bit depressed always being away from my friends and being on my own all week so I decided to get my real estate license. I really had no idea what being a real estate agent was really all about. It looked easy enough on HGTV. It’s nothing like HGTV! But it turns out I love the life of an entrepreneur. I love being able to have the rewards of the business be a reflection of how hard I work and care for my clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been smooth. The life of an entrepreneur is a roller coaster and the real estate market is a roller coaster so sometimes there are some really high highs but it can immediately be followed by low lows. When the market started to turn in 2023 when rates first did their first jump my business partner and I lost over $100,000 in revenue in 3 months. Instead of panicking, we buckled down and ended up with a stellar first quarter of 2024. But that’s what I love about the business not that I have been doing it for 10 years. It’s all about people and building relationships. Sometimes it will take making 5 phone calls to find business, sometimes it will take 100 calls, but there’s always business out there.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Realtor with a unique model. I have my team, The Home Nerds, that is currently just me and my assistant, Michael Wilson. We are partnered with a real estate team called City Up Group at our brokerage which is Keller Williams Dallas Preston Road. We are also partnered with a PropTech company called Place.
I sell residential real estate in DFW. I don’t specialize in a particular area but most of my business is concentrated in Dallas and Collin County. I love selling new construction and I focus on life transitions. In particular, relocation, downsizing are some of my favorites. I also help a lot of first time home buyers.
The Home Nerds just came to be officially in Jan 2026. I have been branding myself as @ThatNerdyRealtor for several years now and it was a really strong brand but also very authentic to myself. I love reading, board games, D&D, cozy gaming, I have even recently started going to speed puzzling competitions. So I’m a big big nerd. And I love helping other nerds buy and sell houses! I want to be known as being a trusted guide for my clients during the home buying process. I want to make sure I educate them on the process so well that they are completely confident in their decisions.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is freedom. Freedom to do what you want, when you want, with who you want.
