Today we’d like to introduce you to Aby George.
Hi Aby, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been a fan of EDM music since I was a kid and have gone to many shows and festival around the country and world but I got into DJ’ing about three years ago.
I had just got done with a series of back to back festivals in 2022 and throughout that time John Summit was coming to his rise and hearing his story of working in Corporate America and trying to be both DJ and a Producer was absolutely mind blowing to me as he was the true definition of work hard, play hard in my mind and kinda motivated me to try and start DJing myself.
I bought my first controller to try and learn but failed miserably as teaching yourself takes some patience and structure. I ended up returning that controller however I still kept the thought in mind and continued to keep doing what I love and going to shows and festivals up until Tomorrowland in 2023 where I had the itch to try again but this time very differently.
I started looking for tutorials and classes weeks to months after and eventually was coming upon my 30th birthday and come to find out there was a DJ School “ Now known as the DJ LAB” out of Dallas that well specialized in djing edm music and held this big showcase at one of the biggest clubs in Dallas “Green Light Social” which coincidently fell on my 30th birthday. I signed up immediately and met my teacher now great friend DJ Titan who took our class under his wing and turned all of us and myself into some menaces behind the decks!
The show case ended up going really well and I had an awesome 30th but it also ended being one of the coolest things to ever happen to me as from that point on my name was on the map within the city, the local promotion groups found out about myself and invited me to play at their events and clubs and well fast forward two years I have played all over DFW, played in NY, and this year playing my first International Gig and have also started producing my own music that have all been signed to labels around the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely has not been a smooth road a lot of late nights, early mornings, dealing with crazy drunk drivers some of the struggles Ive had is keeping up with the scene in Dallas. Theres a lot of great talent here in the city, every DJ here has their own unique sound and style so taking the extra steps to curate my own style and sound has taken a lot of work
Producing and challenging myself as an artist has probably been the biggest struggle as teaching yourself a music program, plus music theory, and all the crazy things behind it is its own beast a long with trying to find your own sound it can get un motivating real quick.
Between the two what keeps me going is the community and the network that I have surrounded myself with. Everyone has the same relative goals in mind and are very encouraging and constantly push me to be the best that I can be.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently a Data Privacy Officer for one of the biggest community colleges in the state where I work with the college on safeguarding and protecting student data.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up personality wise as a kid I was a shy kid but was always able to adapt and turn things on when needed. I have a lot of friend groups that I still keep up with till this day
Interests for me has always been music, video games, fashion, and sports
