Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Crenshaw.
Hi Joe , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
DFW Dad Squad was founded by Joe Crenshaw and Ladrell James, out of a growing burden for fathers who were silently struggling in isolation. What began as informal online conversations and small meetups between dads quickly revealed something deeper: men were craving real brotherhood, not surface-level networking. Men were isolated, trapped, and feeling alone in their struggles.
The Dad Squad was created to give dads a place to show up as they are—without posturing, without judgment—and to build genuine community in proximity to their own cities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. Smooth initially because of massive growth and traction. In the first month we had 3k dads sign up. We were in the top 1% of engagement on all FB groups within the first month as well. So much tration so quickly was great news, but with that came much responsibility. It’s just myself and Ladrell who are running this thing, so it’s been hard to all of the things by ourselves. Thankfully we are getting a great deal of volunteer help.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Dad Squad is our work full time.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
We have so many dads who have volunteered in many ways. We have moderators who volunteer their time to be admin roles in the facebook group, we have 17 city squads who are run by other men in cities all over DFW, we have a board of advisors who have all been very instrumental in this endeavor. Finally, all the dads themselves. The way they have engaged and constantly shown up has helped this movement trememdously.
