Today we’d like to introduce you to Reeta Cruz.
Hi Reeta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Reeta, I’m a model, host, content creator located in Dallas. Walked a Show back in 2019 that I enjoyed and decided, “This is fun, let’s run it.” Just a couple of shows in Covid happened and things shifted. I have a background in Hair/Makeup(Paul Mitchell) post Air Force so I worked with clients as more individuals began taking self portraits. I built a network that allowed me to meet people I now work with in front of the camera and behind from styling, to shoot, to runway, to on air with The Lion Experience Podcast. New Season coming soon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some stepping stones along the way. The pandemic happened shortly after I started walking shows. I’d done hair and makeup for years so that continued, but shows became non existent for a while. That allowed me to get into e-commerce and understanding the different modeling styles.
I also had a baby during this time. The world was changing and as a wife and mother balancing being an entrepreneur, it was an adjustment to say the least. With this new body and weird shift in community, I had to relearn to mind and body in some ways.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
From working e-commerce or doing themed shoots to ripping the runway, there’s something about the lights and getting that real-time reaction from the audience that gives me joy. Seeing the way garments move when the body moves is beautiful.
As a plus-size model I’m known for my legs. My ability to make them look long and the walk is fierce. But I’m also known for my versatility. This is something I want to share with others.
With the culmination of things I do, I have now decided to blend it all together and make a home at ROAB Closet (pronounced robe). I would like to offer my services to empower young ladies and women assist with walking with confidence, posing, photoshoot prep and more.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
When I started the first thing I wondered was where do I find more shows? Check your local FB groups for models/actors. Look on Eventbrite for casting calls. Check your local agencies on their socials and see if you got the vibe.
Maintain professionalism. In this industry you may fit in today and not tomorrow…That’s okay, don’t let business get you out of character. Disrespect will not be tolerated either on either end. This industry is a lot smaller than you think. Don’t close doors that you never knocked on.
Above all, be safe. This means looking up the addy before you go and doing a quick street view. Letting someone know where you are going. Follow your gut. If it doesn’t feel right, it’s not!
