Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa María.
Hi Rosa María, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“In my life, I think I have always been guided by my heart and the intuition that underlies it.” My personal and professional worlds are intertwined at that meeting point: doing what I feel is right for me at any given moment, even if many times it doesn’t make much sense.
I studied biology to understand the genetic disease that was inherited in my maternal family, which caused the death of all the women of those generations: my mother, her four sisters, and my grandmother. I specialized in the biomedical field and conducted research at a well-known hospital in Madrid for a couple of years. I truly enjoyed that time; we made important findings, and I learned to ask the right questions to design experiments that could provide clarity. However, I soon realized that nothing I did could bring back the lives of my beloved family members. That was when I decided to pivot toward education—choosing to prevent rather than cure.
That choice led to nearly two decades as a biology and science teacher. I have worked in four countries, primarily with teenagers in middle and high school, but also in elementary school in Dallas. This international journey deeply enriched my perspective on life. It showed me that we all laugh and cry in the same language; we all wish to be happy and yearn to be loved.
After these two decades in teaching, and especially through the experience of the pandemic, I felt a pressing need to support my students in a more holistic, more human way. I wanted a space where academic knowledge wasn’t everything, but where spirituality, creativity, and self-awareness served as the solid pillars upon which they built their lives. For that reason, I created the Recrearte en espiral (Recreate Yourself in a Spiral) project. In every training session and workshop, I combine my background in biology and neuroscience with emotional management and the body. My current goal is to provide children, youth, and families with practical and realistic tools for their daily routines. I want to help them communicate with deeper empathy, discover their unique gifts to offer them to the world, and become more compassionate with themselves and others.
In addition to these programs, three years ago I launched a podcast called Ser quien soy (Being Who I Am). It is a space where I share reflections and conversations with authentic people who have inspiring paths, aiming to offer diverse perspectives and showcase fascinating lives. All my guests have one thing in common: they listened to and trusted what their soul dictated, betting entirely on their passion. The satisfaction and happiness they radiate—even when sharing their normal crises and ups and downs—is, for me, a deeply contagious source of joy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Oh, no, it hasn’t been an easy road.” I think self-doubt has been the greatest difficulty accompanying me along the way. I sincerely believe in freedom, and having experienced death so closely since I was a child genuinely drives me to choose what I want.
However, I am aware that with every choice where one door opens, many others close; the “what-ifs” creep into my mind when results don’t match my expectations. In those moments, trust in life—and the belief that I always get what I need, even if it’s not what I want—is what keeps me afloat and inspired.
On a more practical level, adapting to every change of job, city, and country has brought its own standard challenges. There is always a tension between the excitement of facing new steps and the fear of the unknown. Fortunately, I am an optimist: I approach every choice as a learning opportunity, which completely eases the tension in my nervous system.
Right now, my current challenge is reaching more children, centers, and families to share what I feel is essential for a better quality of life. Marketing, technology, and algorithms are not exactly fields I understand or find interesting. For now, I rely purely on word-of-mouth, trusting that it will reach the people it is meant to reach.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
“What I do now is support children, youth, and families in exploring their inner selves to know themselves better:” their unique gifts or virtues, their challenges or wounds, and their way of thinking, feeling, and acting. I do this by blending my scientific background in neuroscience and biology with my extensive training in emotional management and body expression. Through movement, theatrical techniques, and other practical dynamics, I create a space where, after understanding the theory, we have the opportunity to genuinely feel in order to comprehend and integrate.
I believe what sets me apart is precisely this combination of mind, emotions, and body. Driven by an innate curiosity, I have trained in various disciplines and delved deeply into my own self-awareness; that is why I share exactly what has helped me on my own path. This brings me an immense sense of satisfaction. I am also deeply proud of the courage it took to step away from a stable career to embark on this new adventure. Even though it is more uncertain, it is incredibly passionate and profoundly rewarding when I witness the impact it leaves on people after each training.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
“I believe that what helps me listen to my heart, chase my dreams, and go after them is my passion for life,” alongside the desire to experience and offer my talents to the world. I firmly believe that each of us has a musical note to contribute so that, together, we can create a beautiful concert; I would like my note to sound perfectly in tune. I adapt easily to change and have the ability to communicate and explain complex concepts in simple ways. In addition, my creativity is playful and diverse, allowing me to truly enjoy everything I do. I believe these are the gifts I have been blessed with, which I continue to discover and polish every day through practice.
