Hidden Gems: Meet Tamaria Johnson of Tamaria Johnson Realtors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamaria Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in Waco, Texas, I was raised by small-town country parents who taught my sisters and me the importance of hard work, humility, perseverance, and treating everyone with respect. I worked hard to put myself through college and graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington before beginning my real estate career nearly 20 years ago. Over the years, I’ve gained experience in bank acquisitions, title, investing, and property valuations, which have all helped shape the real estate professional I am today.

I also know I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of my incredible mentors, friends, family, amazing clients, supportive agents, and, of course, my handsome, funny, and very patient son, who has been by my side through it all. I’m truly grateful for everyone who has believed in me, encouraged me, and supported me throughout this journey. I’ve been blessed to have so many wonderful people in my corner, and I don’t take that for granted.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely had its ups and downs. Real estate can be challenging because there are so many things outside of our control, from interest rates and market conditions to a client unexpectedly deciding to walk away from a deal. When interest rates and home prices are high, affordability can also make it difficult for many buyers to move forward.

I’ve also had my share of naysayers along the way. I remember a real estate instructor telling me I would never be able to get my broker’s license, and I’ve had people tell me I couldn’t sell in certain areas because I was Black or that I would never sell luxury real estate. Instead of letting those comments discourage me, I used them as motivation to work harder and prove to myself what was possible. Through all of the challenges, I’ve learned that tough times don’t last, but tough people do—and sometimes the obstacles we face become the very things that push us to grow and succeed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tamaria Johnson Realtors?
After 20 years in real estate, I’ve learned that this business is about so much more than buying and selling homes. It’s about building relationships, earning trust, and genuinely caring about the people you work with. I treat every client with kindness and respect—I never want anyone to feel like they’re just another commission check. I work with buyers, sellers, and investors throughout the DFW area, as well as international clients, helping them navigate the real estate process with confidence and peace of mind. Buying or selling a home can be a major life decision, and I want my clients to feel supported, informed, and comfortable every step of the way. I’m proud of the reputation I’ve built by staying true to who I am and the values that are important to me: honesty, accessibility, professionalism, and genuine service.

Communication and transparency are a big part of how I do business. I make it a priority to keep my clients informed, answer their questions, and be there when they need me—even when working with international clients in different time zones. At the end of the day, I want every client, no matter where they are or what their real estate needs may be, to know they have someone in their corner who truly cares about their needs.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I think the DFW real estate market will continue to change, especially as affordability, interest rates, new construction, and technology shape the way people buy and sell homes. DFW continues to attract new residents, but affordability is still a concern, and builders are having to adjust to higher costs and changing buyer expectations. I believe buyers will continue to look for value, including opportunities in new construction, while sellers will need to be thoughtful about pricing and positioning their homes. My goal is to continue growing a strong team throughout DFW and expand into Central Texas while providing the experience, personal service, and technology my clients need to navigate an ever-changing market.
