Meet MaxTomi of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to MaxTomi.

Hi MaxTomi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey really began in the nightlife industry. I started as a nightlife promoter, and over the years, I realized that the experience was teaching me far more than just how to put together a successful event. Nightlife is an extremely competitive and fast-moving business, and it taught me valuable skills in marketing, sales, branding, relationship building, customer service, negotiation, and understanding consumer behavior.

Those skills became highly transferable as I began exploring opportunities outside of nightlife. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, so rather than limiting myself to one industry, I started making a series of investments and pursuing different business ventures. Some were successful, while others became valuable learning experiences, but each one helped sharpen my understanding of business, risk, operations, and the importance of adaptability.

Over time, I began to see nightlife not simply as something I did, but as the foundation that helped shape me as an entrepreneur. Building events and experiences from the ground up taught me how to create demand, develop a brand, build communities, manage people, and turn an idea into something people are willing to spend their time and money on.

Today, I continue to apply those lessons across my different ventures. My journey has been less about following one traditional path and more about continuously identifying opportunities, learning new industries, investing strategically, and building on the experience I’ve gained along the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship can be incredibly difficult, and I’ve had multiple ventures that didn’t work out the way I envisioned. I often say that I’ve probably failed more times than some people have tried, but I’ve learned not to look at failure as the end of the story.

Every loss has come with a lesson. Some experiences taught me about business, others taught me about people, partnerships, timing, or even myself. I carry those lessons into every new opportunity, and they’ve made me more calculated, resilient, and adaptable.

I’ve learned that entrepreneurship isn’t about having a perfect track record. It’s about having the courage to keep building, learning, and evolving. The wins have given me confidence, but the losses have given me wisdom. Both have played an important role in shaping the entrepreneur and the man I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m best known for my work in Dallas nightlife, particularly within the Afrobeats scene. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation as one of the city’s leading Afrobeats promoters, creating and developing experiences such as Sounds From Lagos, along with one of Dallas’ most recognized after-hours events for the last 7 years.

What I specialize in goes beyond simply promoting parties. My strength is in understanding people, culture, marketing, and experience. I know how to take an idea, build a brand around it, create demand, and ultimately turn it into a sustainable business. That experience has also allowed me to expand from promoting events into investing in the hospitality industry, including silent investments in nightclubs and hookah lounges.

Outside of nightlife, I’ve continued to diversify my portfolio as an entrepreneur and investor. I’m involved in real estate, including short-term rental properties, and I’ve also operated a small watersports business. I’ve never wanted to be defined by one industry. I’m constantly looking for opportunities to invest, build, and apply what I’ve learned from one business to the next.

What I’m most proud of is the reputation and community I’ve built. In nightlife, people have countless options for where to spend their time and money, so earning their trust and consistently bringing them back is something I don’t take lightly. What sets me apart is my ability to understand the business behind the experience. I’m not interested in simply creating a great night. I’m focused on building brands, businesses, assets, and experiences that have longevity.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating experiences that genuinely bring joy to people. One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is seeing people smile, connect, celebrate, and simply enjoy being present in the moment.

That means even more to me during the holidays. Holidays are often associated with family and togetherness, but the reality is that not everyone has family nearby or a community to celebrate with. Some people finish work and genuinely have nowhere to go and no one to spend that time with.

Knowing that something I created can give someone a place where they feel welcomed, surrounded by good energy, and part of a community gives me an incredible sense of fulfillment. At the end of the day, the events may be the business, but the people are the purpose. That’s what makes what I do meaningful to me.
