Inspiring Conversations with Damien Ramirez of RENI Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damien Ramirez.

Hi Damien, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began in the home-improvement industry, where I spent six years leading installation services for one of the nation’s largest home-improvement retailers. During that time, I worked across cabinetry, custom closets, organization systems, and exterior projects, eventually becoming the company’s top-performing leader nationwide. That experience taught me how to lead teams, manage complex projects, and turn a homeowner’s vision into a finished space.

After leaving the corporate world, I took the leap into entrepreneurship and built my first contracting business from the ground up. That chapter taught me every side of running a company from sales and estimating to project management, installation, and customer service. However, life eventually brought us to a place where we had to start over.

Starting over was not easy, but it gave my wife, Gladys, and me an opportunity to build something that truly reflected who we are and what we love. Long before RENI Design existed, we enjoyed remodeling and improving our own homes together. We loved taking outdated or underused spaces and transforming them into something beautiful, functional, and personal. What began as projects inside our own homes eventually became a shared passion and the foundation for our new business.

That new beginning became RENI Design. We started with custom closets, cabinetry, and thoughtfully designed organization solutions, and have since grown into a full-service renovation company completing bathrooms, kitchens, living spaces, outdoor projects, and commercial transformations throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Today, RENI represents more than a business to us it represents resilience, purpose, and the courage to begin again. Every part of our journey has helped shape the company we are building today. We remain grounded in faith, family, integrity, and the belief that every space and every new beginning has the potential to become something remarkable.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road. One of my earliest challenges was navigating a business partnership that ultimately did not work out. Even through that difficulty, we were able to triple the company’s revenue in a single fiscal year. It was an accomplishment I was proud of, but it also taught me that growth alone does not define success the people you build with, the values you share, and the foundation beneath the business matter just as much.

At the same time, we were facing deeply personal challenges. My wife, Gladys, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last year, and together we also walked through the emotional and physical demands of IVF. Watching her overcome cancer while continuing to pursue our dream of becoming parents gave me an entirely new perspective on faith, strength, and perseverance. Today, by God’s grace, she is cancer-free, and we are four months pregnant with our first child—a baby girl.

All of this was happening alongside the everyday hustle of building a business. There were long days, uncertainty, financial pressure, and constant questions about what came next. Through it all, we kept returning to one central question: Are we serving our clients in the best way possible and raising the standard within our industry?

The idea for RENI Design truly came to life while Gladys and I were sitting together on a beach in Pensacola, building our business plan and imagining what this company could become. Less than two months later, we decided to go all in. We did not have every detail figured out. We wondered whether we would have enough workers, where our first clients would come from, and what our first step should even be.

There was hesitation, of course. That always comes before taking the biggest and scariest step forward. But we realized that everything we had experienced the successful seasons, the failed partnership, the health battles, IVF, and the lessons from our previous careers had prepared us for this moment.

With my wife beside me as my partner, we turned an idea born on a beach into a business built with purpose. We are still writing the story, but RENI Design has already changed our lives. Now, our goal is to use what we have built to change the lives of our clients by creating spaces that serve their families beautifully for years to come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
RENI Design is a Dallas–Fort Worth–based, design-driven renovation company specializing in custom interiors, functional organization, and thoughtfully transformed spaces. We began with custom closets, pantries, mudrooms, laundry rooms, cabinetry, and feature walls, and have grown to offer complete bathroom, kitchen, living-space, outdoor, and commercial renovations.

What sets RENI apart is the partnership behind the brand. My wife, Gladys, brings a strong creative eye and an ability to understand how a space should look, feel, and function for the people using it. I bring years of experience in construction operations, sales, project management, and leading installation teams. Together, we combine design and execution so our clients are not left trying to coordinate separate designers, contractors, and trades on their own.

We do not believe renovations should be approached with a one-size-fits-all mindset. Every family, business, and property has different needs. We take the time to understand how our clients live, what problems they are trying to solve, and what they want their space to become. From the initial consultation and design direction to material selections, construction, and final details, our goal is to provide a clear, organized, and highly personalized experience.

We are especially known for finding creative ways to maximize underused spaces. That may mean transforming an empty wall into custom cabinetry, turning a spare area into a functional pantry or wet bar, redesigning a bathroom, or completely reimagining a home or commercial environment. We want every finished project to be beautiful, but it must also make everyday life easier and more enjoyable.

What I am most proud of is what the RENI brand represents. It was born during a season when Gladys and I were starting over, facing uncertainty, and choosing to build something meaningful together. Because of that, resilience, faith, family, integrity, and personal service are woven into the company’s foundation. Our clients are trusting us with their homes, businesses, and hard-earned investments, and we never take that responsibility lightly.

We are not simply trying to complete projects we are building relationships and creating spaces that serve people for years to come. RENI Design represents the belief that every space has untapped potential and that, with the right vision and team, it can become something truly remarkable.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a very competitive family and played high-level soccer throughout the Dallas area. Losing was never something we accepted easily, and that competitive environment shaped me into someone who is driven, disciplined, and constantly looking for ways to improve. It also contributed to the perfectionist in me—the part of my personality that refuses to settle when I know something can be done better.

Much of who I am comes from the example set by my parents. My dad is tough, but he is also one of the most dependable, selfless, and sacrificial people I know. He taught me that strength is demonstrated by showing up, working hard, and serving others even when it is inconvenient. My mother loves her family fiercely and would go to the ends of the earth for the people she cares about. From her, I learned loyalty, compassion, and the importance of keeping family at the center of everything.

My sisters are also a major source of motivation for me. I have always wanted to break through barriers so the path might be a little easier for them. I want them to see that they can dream bigger, take risks, and pursue opportunities without allowing fear or circumstances to limit them. I love them deeply, and much of what drives me comes from wanting to make my entire family proud.

We also had the incredible blessing of growing up with my grandparents, who were the glue that held our family together. My grandfather could fix almost anything around a home, and he believed in doing the work himself. Looking back, I can see how his resourcefulness and craftsmanship influenced my love for building, remodeling, and creating with my hands. He helped me work on certain areas of my own homes, and since he passed away in 2023, those spaces have become more than parts of a house—they are pieces of him. I will probably never renovate them because they carry his memory and the evidence of the time we spent together.

My grandmother is pure love. You can feel her warmth the moment you meet her. She has always had a way of making people feel safe, welcomed, and deeply cared for. That is something I try to carry into my own relationships and into the way we serve our clients.

When I look at who I am today, I see pieces of all of them: my family’s competitive spirit, my father’s toughness and reliability, my mother’s devotion, my sisters’ motivation, my grandfather’s craftsmanship, and my grandmother’s love. Those influences shaped the husband, brother, leader, and business owner I have become. They are also at the heart of how we are building RENI Design—with excellence, perseverance, service, and a deep respect for what a home means to the people who live there.
