Today we’d like to introduce you to Charae Tucker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I’ve been into fashion since I was a little girl. I remember going shopping with my mom and always trying on the display heels. I even did some modeling as a child. In college, I received my degree in Fashion Merchandising and after graduating went into retail management. It wasn’t long before I begin feeling unfulfilled. So the search began for something better. As I researched careers in the fashion industry, I ran across celebrity styling.
Once I discovered it, I moved to Los Angeles where I assisted a few celebrity stylists and started working for Nordstrom. I eventually moved back to Dallas and transferred to a Nordstrom here and begin working as a Personal Stylist for the company.
It was then that I discovered my passion for working 1 on 1 with clients in helping them to achieve their desired look. It was a lot of fun but I wanted more. I wanted to help clients discover and develop their style over time. And I wanted to present them with the best options from all retailers and boutiques. That’s when Styled by Charae was conceived.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not but that’s where growth comes from. People see the content I put out or the stories of me shopping for clients, but it’s not all glitz and glamour. The most difficult thing for me has been finding balance. As a business owner, there’s not a marketing department, finance department, customer service department, etc., there’s just me. I love it and wouldn’t trade it for the world but it can be difficult at times to make sure all the bases are covered.
Please tell us about Styled by Charae.
Styled by Charae is a personal styling company that helps people discover their style, teach them how to maximize their wardrobe and enhances their overall image. I offer a few different services but I’ll share the most popular one, which is an In-Store Style Session.
Before the session, I sit down with each client for a 1 on 1 consultation, where we both get to know each other better. For me, I’m learning more about their lifestyle, wardrobe struggles and desired style. From there, I put together a custom style roadmap, detailing their style objective and overall plan to enhance their wardrobe and style.
Afterwards, the real fun begins. I’ll pre-shop at the best stores that fit their needs & lifestyle. Later on, they’ll meet up with me and walk into a fitting room with styled outfits waiting for them to try on. It’s a fun experience and I love when I get the reaction, “I would have never picked this but I love it!”
What sets Styled by Charae apart is that we actually teach people how to discover, shop and dress for their personal style. I don’t just go on the hunt for the most expensive or trendy items and tell people they should buy them. I seek out pieces that make sense for each individual client. I also make sure I’m explaining why certain pieces work and others don’t. Lastly, I show them how to incorporate new items into their existing wardrobe for maximum wardrobe versatility.
No matter which service a client chooses, we are guaranteed to have a great time together, and they are going to look and feel better in the end.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my business sooner! But I have peace knowing that every job I had leading up to this moment, God used to prepare me for now. All in all, it’s all working out and I know it will continue to.
