Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Miller.
Chloe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all began with my “debut” as a featured extra when I was just 10 years old. If you watch The Firm, the 90’s blockbuster John Grisham adaptation starring Tom Cruise, and perhaps see a little girl in an airport scene with pigtails standing next to Wilford Brimley that looks directly at the camera- that’s me! Acting at it’s finest! In all seriousness, it was a wonderful experience that hooked me on acting from that very moment. It was a natural progression that I fell hard for voice over, when I realized this new-found love for acting could be combined with my love for the voices behind, well, everything that spoke, as well as my beloved cartoons.
I have danced in ballet and modern and have been a part of the theater, acting, and the performing arts for over 30 years. I have always felt most at home up on stage ever since I can remember, and I believe that shows in my performance. As I was pursuing ballet in college as a ballet major, I had a very serious injury that required surgery; it quickly ended my career as a professional dancer. My creative side was placed on the back burner as I pursued a more “traditional” career path, after being spooked by decades of dedication and study that was ended in an instant by a bad ankle injury. I added to my arsenal the education and over 10 years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse.
Thus, I now have a very unique opportunity where I get to use my left side of my brain as a medical professional and my right side as an artist, concurrently every day in industrial and medical reads, which I think brings forth confidence, empathy and authenticity to my copy. It was thanks to this nursing career that I was formally introduced, if you will, to the world of voice over at all. I worked for a wonderful concierge clinic that has a weekly show airing on Sirius XM, that is syndicated nationally and also offered as a podcast on iTunes. My boss always thought my voice would be just perfect for radio and wanted me to come in and record for the show. I was always busy with clients but appreciated the compliment. Thank goodness for her determination!
She finally talked me into going, and I kicked myself why I hadn’t done it sooner. I walked into the studio like I was like a kid in a candy shop; just in awe of all that went into making a radio show behind the scenes! When I sat down with my script, headphones on, microphone set and sound engineer at the ready, I was nervous as all get out, but even with my adrenaline pumping and not really knowing what exactly to do as my first try, somehow it all just felt “right”. I began recording commercials and promos for the show, already making a mental plan on how I could transition over to voice over as a career.
It took a few years time, but I was fortunate enough in timing and finances to be able to transition my business from a part-time to a full-time career as a voice talent. I love applying my years of experience as a performer and additionally enrolled in acting classes, started with a very talented and amazing voice over coach, and read everything on the subject I could get my hands on. I am a big believer that one never stops learning. All my recordings are completed in-house at our state-of-the-art recording booth and studio available around the clock, which allows professional and speedy turnarounds.
My vocal forte is in narration, industrial, medical, promo, commercial, podcasting, audiobooks, and e-learning, to name a few. My tone is warm, witty, and authentic, and has also been described as youthful, natural, easily conversational, raspy, intelligent, confident, smooth and rich. I’ve lent my voice to promos and commercials, and have had the opportunity to bring characters to life in a video game, animations, and a few other upcoming projects.
I absolutely love what I do and the ability to bring a client’s idea or words written on paper to life. There’s no better feeling than having a happy client say my read was better than they imagined it could be. And I love that I still get to educate the public with my voice acting with eLearning modules or audiobooks on health matters, combining my two loves.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been some struggles. Some financial ones of course. Whether that be extra unforeseen charges from constructing a new recording space, or other extra charges needed to make a new piece of added technology work. Especially with the unpredictable nature that is contract/freelance work, it can sometimes induce anxiety on whether or not your month, quarter, or year is going to be a profitable one.
Another major challenge is definitely my health, though I refuse to label it as an obstacle, only a moderate challenge at this time. I have both Lyme disease and Polycystic Kidney Disease, which both zap away your energy, while one will eventually lead to dialysis and hopefully a kidney transplant. It definitely presents its own set of challenges on top of those normally presented to each solopreneur.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chloe Miller Voice Over – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Chloe Miller Voice Over, is of course, where I offer my services as a voice over talent/voice actor. It is a two-person team consisting of both my husband, Chad Miller, myself as a two-person team. He handles the finances, and I handle pretty much everything else. In a nutshell, my wonderful husband is my rock and supports me by helping to crunch the numbers (he has 14 years experience in forecasting and finance after receiving his BS in Finance, so don’t tell him I said this, but I do suppose he knows what he’s doing).

I’m most known for my witty and intelligent tone used for start-up tech, or the girl-next-door/funny wife of a clueless husband tone as well. I record in-house, so projects can be completed and turned around within 24 hours or much less depending on client need. We welcome live directed sessions and can hold them via Source Connect, Skype, Google Hangouts, Zoom, Discord, or whatever program the client prefers.
As a company, I’m most proud of how much we’ve grown in such a relatively small amount of time, and the quality of the product which we give. We are a one-stop shop for vocally recording script, editing/mastering it, and even adding a music soundtrack of original, local music to the finished product. I’ve been very pleased with the response we’ve received about the business so far, and we still have goals to continue that growth and give the same exact personalized attention and touch to each client going forward.
What sets us apart is not only my ease and confidence with medical and industrial narration due to my 10+ years as a RN (which I know some VO talent struggle with or avoid this type of copy like the plague), but also my positive attitude and my ability to take and apply direction well and quickly. I’ve been told by both directors and casting leads that it is a very hard thing to find people that are pleasant to work with these days that also tic all the boxes of all the other qualities you require for a certain project.
I believe that is something people learn within a few minutes after meeting me, that I not only work extremely hard and pay attention to the very smallest detail up to the big picture, but that I truly love people and working together to accomplish a goal. Perhaps it’s my years working as a pediatric nurse bleeding through, but I can’t help but let that positivism peek through into all that I do.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan on continuing to grow with our increased demand. It just so happens that we just completed the construction of our upgraded, state-of-the-art recording booth just this past month, which can now accommodate any client’s needs with a noise floor of well under -60dB, with upgraded microphones, interfaces, pre-amps, etc. I do have to admit that I am a bit of a technology nerd/junkie, so I always look forward to a situation where a new piece of tech can be added to solve an issue.
Which I suppose is a good outlook to have overall when one is in a field that heavily relies on technology but if one isn’t careful it could easily get out of hand. Thus it’s important to keep one’s finger on the pulse of the industry to see and anticipate new trends in the field. So I will be keeping pace with the small shifts here and there in technology, which is mandated in this business (and which I enjoy!), but no big changes have been planned as of now.
