Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissy Cruz.
Chrissy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I knew very early in life that I loved taking pictures; 10 years old in fact. I loved taking pictures of just about anything insight. When I was younger I always carried a disposable film camera in my backpack to school, Snapping away and creating memories with my friends. I was the one with all different kinds of cameras growing up, Starting with a film camera, then a Polaroid camera, and currently with a digital camera. Though it wasn’t until many years later that I pursued photography as a career.
After becoming a mother I was more drawn to photography. I wanted to “professionally” capture all those precious memories of my child, so I purchased my first DSLR camera back in 2009. That spring (2009) I was unstoppable. I took advantage of my free time exploring and shooting. Then soon after I was on the prowl for clients, asking family and friends to collaborate with me.
I Started my own photography business and taking every gig I could. Discovering what I wanted to specialize in was just the beginning. I have developed an admiration for couples, family, children, and maternity shoots that are romantic and dynamic. My ultimate goal is to fulfill the vision of my clients. I also photograph at any opportunity available. Currently venturing off into the wedding world as we speak!
Each session is custom created to represent the likes, interests and passions of the individual. Providing my clients with gorgeous and memorable artwork drives me to continually learn and innovate. Delivering exceptional experience, pampering my clients both young and old has been vital to my success. I love images, thinking about them, creating them, and seeing images from other fellow photographers. Photography is my passion!
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t feel as if any life experience can be “smooth” if it’s meant to teach. Looking back, I am grateful for the bumps and struggles. Just starting out is the hardest part. I went months without making a profit, actually even operating at a loss, just working feverishly to get my work and my name out there. Clients can’t find you if they don’t know you exist.
Marketing is a consistent online presence through social media are all extremely important, but they’re also very time-consuming. It can be a struggle to keep up with everything you still have to do outside of the photography.
However, I have learned as long as you keep doing what YOU love doing and being the best you can be at it, then that is all that matters.

Chrissy Cruz photography documents family stories such as Watching bellies grow, babies developing, couples creating lifelong commitments, and families coming together in beautiful moments. This is one of my greatest passions.
While I offer many different types of photography, my specialties lie in couples, wedding, maternity and family sessions. During outdoor sessions, I love capturing the gorgeous golden light! More than capturing an image, I want to create a work of art featuring my clients so that they can treasure these pieces in their home and someday pass them down to their children and grandchildren.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The first thing I love about our city is downtown Dallas. Have you ever just drove around it at night just to see the buildings lit? If you haven’t, it is a must see in Dallas! I also love the variety of shooting locations in Dallas. There is no shortage of interesting backdrops for my work.
The least I like about our city Is the horrific traffic. Doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, there’s a good chance you’re going to be caught in the middle of traffic. I’m sure others will agree with me also.
