Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernanda Capobianco.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m Brazilian and moved to New York 8 years ago. As a vegan since childhood, I decided to open a Vegan Divas, a vegan pastry and desserts business in New York. My father died very early so I became very health conscious in my early age. We currently sell through vegandivasnyc.com directly to the consumer all over the Country and wholesale to best Grocery stores as Whole Foods Markets and Dean Deluca.
It’s great to be able to incorporate my lifestyle into my own business. Plant-based foods and healthy lifestyle is my life, including meditation, exercises, spiritual practice and humanitarian work. It’s thrilling that every day I meet interesting people doing great stuff related to healthy foods and trying to save the World somehow. I have a great meditation group and we meet every week in my house for spiritual practice. I believe that the changes must start in small communities in order to build something bigger and create awareness.
It has been fun to watch how over the past 3 years the search for healthy and vegan products increased tremendously. Veganism is mainstream. Every regular grocery store nowadays wants vegan products worldwide.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the struggles were: there wasn’t a substantial vegan community when I started the business, there were not enough vendors to get the ingredients and the markets/clients didn’t know about vegan products because there were almost none in the marketplace.
Vegan Divas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell delicious vegan and healthy baked goods and desserts across the Country. We sell vegan products but we are really proud that our customers are 90% non-vegan necessarily which means that our products are delicious and great for vegans and non-vegans with a sweet tooth.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when you do something and give 100% of your attention to it. When you are present in the moment you have more chances to be successful on whatever you do.
Nowadays we have so many distractions (social media, smartphones, information) on the globalized World which is really hard to keep focused. My main goal lately is to do less things but deliver a better product. It means, delivers a better cake to my customer, spend quality time with friends, family and even with the employees and enjoy the meals slowly.
