Today we’d like to introduce you to Eason Maykus.
Eason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Maykus Custom Homes and Maykus Homes are family owned. Kosse Maykus started the business after he graduated from Texas Tech University. His father Frank Maykus was also a home builder. We develop land to create lots for the building business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been an exciting road. The struggles are keeping up with the changing market.
Zoning requirements in our areas many times allow for large lots only. Conveying to the public that smaller lots equal greater overall quality for a community is a challenge. The population boom of DFW is a great thing, but also comes with challenges. Not all growth and development is bad, but many times developers and growth gets a bad rap. Finding creative ways to work together is an exciting challenge.
Please tell us about Maykus Custom Homes.
Our business is much more than a home building company. We have tried to vertically integrate our business to be a one-stop shop. From creating lots from raw dirt to buying a lot, or home with our sales team our goal is to be a streamlined process for a consumer looking to find a great home in a community.
We are proud of our lean and mean approach. Our company has ten employees and it is a family atmosphere with decades of experience. My specialty is interfacing with clients from the very beginning to the warranty stages of the home. Everyone at Maykus Custom Homes wears many hats and has many specialties.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Embraced a disciplined structure in the construction process earlier. We have always been a, “yes, we can do that” at every question. With the demand growing our process has to be more structured.
