Meet The Gibbonses

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Gibbonses, Brandon Gibbons.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Jackie and I met in 2011 while working in a top 40 cover band on a cruise ship. We hit it off pretty quickly as friends and bandmates and knew early on that we would continue to work together in a musical sense after we left the cruise ship industry. Somewhere along the way over the next few months that relationship grew into something more, and the rest is history!

After leaving ships we spent a couple of years in Seattle creating our duo show and developing our voices as songwriters. Shortly after our wedding in July of 2014, we moved back to Jackie’s home state of Texas, and formed The Gibbonses.

Please tell us about your art.
The Gibbonses are a multi-instrumental, Americana Duo. With Jackie as the ultimate multi-tasker, rocking a kick-drum, shaker, tambourine, and symbol, myself on guitar utilizing multiple signal chains and some creative effects, and both of us singing, we’ve been told that we make quite a bit more sound than you would think possible with only having two people on stage.

As independent artists, we strive to bring people together, and create a community around what we are doing. While we enjoy playing all kind of music venues and festivals, our favorite way of connecting with our supporters is by performing House Concerts. For the past 3 summers we’ve travelled all over the US and Canada performing intimate concerts in backyards, living rooms, art studios, and all kinds of creative spaces.

House Concerts are an incredibly connective way to share our songs and the stories behind them in intimate spaces with engaged communities of friends and families. We do them on a donation basis, so anyone can host or attend.

Over the last 3 years of traveling across the country and meeting folks from all different walks of life, one of the most amazing things we’ve found is that no matter where you come from, the color of your skin, your religious or political views, or whom you choose to love; as human beings, we all want the same things for ourselves and for those people we care about. Music has this incredible power to bring people together and help them see through their differences, and that is what has always drawn us down this path.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It’s so important to remember to make time to connect with people. As artists much of our work is done in solitude. When I’m writing or learning new material, days and days can go by without me leaving the house. It takes a conscious effort sometimes to schedule time to spend with friends and family. Go out and support other artists. If you’re a musician, go to open mics. Meet other musicians and build relationships. It’s those connections that make art worth experiencing and life worth living.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Our debut album, “Among the Rubble” is available directly from our website, www.thegibbonses.com, as well as Spotify, iTunes and all other digital music platforms. We just recorded our second album entitled, “All We’ve Got”, and are gearing up to release that very soon!

Of course, you can find us on Facebook and Instagram (@thegibbonses), but the best way to keep in touch is to head over to our website and get yourself signed up for our newsletter. Our subscribers are always the first to hear about upcoming events, new releases, and all our fun shenanigans. And we’re always looking to expand our community of House Concerts hosts as well!
