Art & Life with Casey Booth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Booth.

Casey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Drawing has been a part of my life since I was very young. My specialty is hand drawn illustration and I picked up graphic design in High School. Since then, I’ve tried to incorporate both into my work as much as I can. Lifestyle, music, and horror are my favorite genres. I’m lucky that my passion for art is not only a hobby, but my career.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Although I do a lot of digital work, my interest is mostly in hand-drawn illustration. I have a lot of respect for artists who can execute mixed media- illustration, digital and typography. I love old movie posters and book covers for that reason. I love the way the illustrations mesh with typography, being aware of the space and how to fill it, without it being too much. My art captures this as well and, as of the last few years, most of what I draw is in the Horror genre. The aesthetic, imagery, and vintage themes associated with horror are exciting visually appealing. The past 6 years or so I’ve become fascinated with ink drawing, mainly because of the challenge it provides vs pencil sketching. My art usually starts with pencil sketches, and those are either inked by hand or digitally, it just depends on the piece. After that, I color them in Photoshop or Clip Studio. I really don’t  have a message I’m trying to get across with my art; I just create things that I like and hope to reaches a niche audience that appreciates the same look I do.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
For me, art is a personal, fun outlet. It’s the perfect escape from all that goes on in the world; my art doesn’t have a specific message other than hoping people like it.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can find my work on Instagram and on my website. Also, I participate in art shows in Dallas, so art fans can follow me and find out where I’ll be next!
