Meet Nadia Velasquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Velasquez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always been in love with the art of photography since I was little. I was the crazy little girl with the disposable camera in her hand at all time when I was younger. I use to annoy my parents all the time, asking them to take me to get my film developed. Growing up, I was a part of groups at school that allowed me to be behind the camera capturing events and anything that came up. It was pretty cool being a part of that. I always worked hard to be able to purchase the new trending equipment and that’s how I began this journey. It all started when my son was born, I started capturing every little detail and I loved having the memories. My friends would see my pictures on social media and wanted me to capture all the special moments for their kids as well. I then bought my first DSLR. Seven years later here I am, meeting families, capturing weddings, births, birthdays and being a part of announcements. It’s so amazing to know that this is my job, to be able to capture unforgettable moments for people that will turn into unforgettable memories for them for many years.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a Lifestyle and wedding photographer. My job is to capture real life, emotions and RAW moments for my clients. I let them be themselves 100% with their family and loved ones without trying to pose them too much. I feel like creating real life moments is the closest thing to getting to relive that very moment years later. I let kids be kids. I let them cry, run around, play, hold on to parents because those are real giggles, real hugs, real love, and real emotions that they are showing at that very moment. I love to get my couples to laugh and tell each other secrets and jokes to try to get them to show me their love so I can capture just that.

I hope my clients take away from my work all the memories that I provide for them. I hope that years down the road they can sit down with their grandkids or anyone and just look at all those memories and remember the good times, the funny, the way they couldn’t get someone to cooperate for one picture or just something special from that day with their session from me.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think the biggest challenge today for any artist is having to try to send out and be true to themselves and their style. There’s so many talented people in this world now that one may lose them self’s in the industry trying to fit in or having their work look like everyone else’s, We must ALWAYS be true to our own individual love for the art of what we do, because that’s what’s going to set us apart from the rest I believe.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Social media is a great platform now days. With the help of Instagram and Facebook people are able to keep up with my work and my personal life. They get to know a little bit of myself before they even book with me, which is great because it helps them get to know me a little. It also helps start up conversation when they first meet me at a session because they can bring up something that I posted on my instastory.

Supporting small businesses has gotten kind of difficult now days only because if your main platform is social media they want you to have to pay to get some of your stuff advertise or so you can have more exposure. I normally tell my clients and followers that they don’t necessarily need to book me to support me, a simple comment on a picture that they like will help. They can also share a post on social media or refer a friend or family member. I feel like a lot of my sessions get booked because it’s a great referral
